Latest Rumor: AMD’s Navi 20 series to get ray-tracing to kill Nvidia’s RTX lineup vibe

There is a rumor that AMD has developed it own ray-tracing technology that could be incorporated into the red team’s expected Navi 20 series. The same source speculates that this high-end lineup could challenge or even surpass the ray-tracing capabilities of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards.

Thanks to the popular tech site, Wccftech we have gotten our hands on new rumors about AMD’s next-gen 7nm Navi GPUs. According to the report, AMD Navi is going to be released at least a month after AMD Zen 2 is released.

Wccftech wrote, “I have been told that AMD’s Navi GPU is at least one whole month behind AMD’s 7nm Ryzen launch, so if the company launches the 3000 series desktop processors at Computex like they are planning to, you should not expect the Navi GPU to land before early August. The most likely candidates for launch during this window are Gamescom and Siggraph. I would personally lean towards Gamescom simply because it is a gaming product and is the more likely candidate but anything can happen with AMD!”

Thanks to somewhat credible rumors, we know that AMD may release their next-gen 7nm Zen 2 CPUs on 7/7/19. The rumor claimed that AMD chose the 7/7 release date because they are going to release Navi and Zen 2 on the same day. If this rumor is true, Zen 2 is most likely going to be announced at Computex 2019 but, it seems like AMD changed their mind about Navi’s release date. 

Whats new now?

Apparently, AMD’s goal is to release a Navi 10 lineup this year, which should feature products that can compete against Nvidia GPUs such as the GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce RTX 2070 in terms of level of gaming performance. This should pave the way for the eventual release of the Navi 20 series at some point in 2020, which could include chips that match the best Nvidia has – and even beat them. For AMD to succeed in this, it would certainly help if the Navi 20 GPUs offer the “extremely impressive” performance in ray-tracing technology as is reported in the RedGamingTech clip.

There’s no denying AMD is likely improving its Graphics Core Next architecture for the Navi 10 and Navi 20 GPUs, but the truth will only really be known once the chips are actually officially launched. At some point, the red team should supply a product that competently faces off against the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti, but that seems to point at the result of AMD’s 7nm+ Next Gen plans (which is possibly “Arcturus”).

The first flush of Navi graphics cards will release this year, potentially on July 7, though Gamescom in August has also been mooted, and even an October launch has been speculated on too.
