Maybe I'm thinking about this too much or I have tunnel vision but one thing I really like in Silksong is how many female characters it has. Like, for some time now I've almost subconsciously started paying attention to how many and what kinds of female characters a piece of media has. And Silksong isn't Oops! All Female Characters by any means, but it just somehow strikes me that a lot of the bosses at least have female voices, and so many pretty important and portrayed-as-strong NPCs are female, of course with a wide variety.
And I love Hornet's character so much. Even in Hollow Knight she was pretty no nonsense, and that's even more apparent in Silksong. But there's more to her, she has an immense sense of duty and righteousness, she's both focused on her main mission and helps others she finds along the way. She respects strength and resilience, not only in body but also in mind. She encourages others to keep going but also urges them to rest when it seems necessary. She actively challenges herself and wants to learn new things. And when she makes mistakes, she owns up to them and does her absolute best to fix things. Also, she sets hard boundaries on how others should treat her, telling one NPC only to address her by name or not at all. God, what an icon.
