I really dislike that songs and stories about jewish refugees must culminate in a generalized message about welcoming refugees or modern American government policies
We cannot be allowed to have stories about ourselves. The conclusion cannot be that there is an inherently unstable relationship to residence that comes with galut. We are not allowed to lament our own exile. We are not entitled to the stories of parents, grandparents or great grandparents. We cannot be permitted fear of future displacement.
The story of a Jewish girl fleeing Vienna in 1939 is not the same as the story of a Syrian girl fleeing Aleppo in 2014.
When Jews tell tales of flight it is a prediction and a preparation. Displacement is the condition of the Jewish diaspora. It is not a potential or temporary phenomenon.
