"It is a surprise," he said, laughter colouring his voice. Oh, he was so different from the other men she had met in the past, the ones that had wanted to stand above her and dominate her. He was not like that. Eric, most of all, wanted to make her laugh, and whether that was by relentless teasing or by bringing her gifts and surprises, he didn't care.
Right now he was pushing her along, the blindfold over her eyes secured tightly. They had been together for over thirty-five years, the second world war had just ended, and the people dared to breathe again.
She could feel an ocean breeze, the call of the waves.
The blindfold came loose and when the darkness disappeared, she saw they were in the harbour. Gulls were screeching overhead and a large ship laid anchored in front of them, people waiting to board as, far away, the horn of another ship called into the early morning.
Surprises, just like her own mother Angrboða wasn’t perhaps the biggest fan of them. Nonetheless, she had learned that a few pouts would definitely not do anything to change Gallowglass’ mind. In fact, it only seemed to fuel him, and that fuelled grin was the last thing she saw before he had put the blindfold over her eyes. A few teasing remarks had not done anything either, so she had given in and stepped on the back of his bike. Truly something outrageous for a woman to do in the 50s.
❝ A cruise ? ❞ Her eyes had to adjust to the light again, and Angie blinked once, twice before looking up to Gallowglass standing behind her, that knowing grin still plastered on his lips. Whether it was a cruise or not, it was certainly something she had not expected from him. Yes, he loved the sea, and travelling by boat was something they both had grown up doing. It was not something she had done often in the past few decades, however.
❝ Or is this one of your family’s ? ❞
