Gabrovo is a district capital in the Central Balkan region of Bulgaria. The city is called "The comedy capital of Bulgaria" where they celebate humour and satire on April 1st. The city emerged in the early Midle ages as a maintenance outpost for the nearby mountain passage fortresses, guarding against invaders. During the Revival Period, Gabrovo became the first Bulgarian city to establish a secular school. It also was a major economical centre.
