good question! this has to do with a feature I haven’t discussed yet in the grammar, but it’s pitch accent. Basically łaá siri has a very simple tone system which I classify as pitch accent. The “tone” is distinguished on certain (predictable) syllables and it always occurs on the second mora. So, for instance, the pitch accent of a syllable like the one from the grammar would be: 

‹’a+ár› L+H

yasaá laasi tłariyasasaá

Syllables, as a whole, strictly occur in a CV(V){ʔ, ɹ} pattern. The phonotactics of łaá siri are moraic, as will be shown later, and the maximum a single syllable may have is two morae – the divide between which is hypothesized to occur prior to the coda and/or in the middle of a diphthong, if present. Diphthongs are only homorganic (/aa/) and never heterorganic (*/ai/). So, a most complex syllable possible may be, for example: ‹'aar›. However, the syllable is composed of two morae: ‹'a+ar›. This is important when dealing with the placement of pitch-accent.
