Hello, first of all, and thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! First, for reference:

Hmm… Claudia not being born a Phantomhive would be difficult. There’s nothing really canon to say she was or was not born a Phantomhive (except for that family tree? maybe?), but there’s a few hints: for her to not be born a Phantomhive, but still be a Watchdog/Earl, as it is hinted in the following images, she’d have had to marry a Phantomhive… but why would she be the Earl, if so? I don’t think the Phantomhives would let the titles go to someone other than one of their own. Even if she’d married an earl who died, I think the title would’ve been passed to another person from the family (brother, sister, cousin), not to her. It’s what I think.

How would Claudia not being a Phantomhive by blood would affect things? Well, if Vincent was Claudia and Undertaker’s son, and neither of his parents were a Phantomhive by blood, then the twins wouldn’t be Phantomhive by blood either, and this whole talk of Undertaker not wanting to lose another “Phantomhive” wouldn’t mean anything anymore, it’d be in vain. They’d still have the name, of course, but not the blood.

To sum it up… I find it difficult, Claudia not being a Phantomhive by blood. Not impossible, just difficult.

Claudia being a Phantomhive by blood doesn’t affect the whole situation with Frances, though. She could still have another father, maybe a so-called ‘legitimate husband’ of Claudia. If Frances had another father, it would certainly make the whole Cedric=Undertaker situation a lot, looot easier (because you can have one child with another man, but two children makes the situation difficult). For example, she could’ve passed Vincent, a child she would’ve had with Undertaker, as her legitimate husband’s, et voilà!  Done. But to have both children with Undertaker would complicate the situation, although this must have been discussed multiple times in the fandom already. 

However, there’s the following tweet from Yana translated by our dear @akumadeenglish (all credits for it!!!! and many thanks. I’ve just reblogged it on my account, please do check it out).

“Ciel’s grandfather looks like Edward” this hints directly at Ciel and Edward having the same grandfather… which nullifies the Frances having another father theory, unfortunately. However, none of this is actually canon yet, and that was pretty much 4 years ago, so she can change her mind. But, as for now, Frances and Vincent should have the same father.
