Hidden Gems: Finalists in the 2019 Fusion Awards
The team behind the Hidden Gems project were honoured to be independently recognised with a nomination for a Community Cohesion Award at the annual North West Fusion Awards held at King George’s Hall in Blackburn on Saturday 6 July.
The Fusion Awards recognises and showcases the contributions of individuals and organisations who are working at grass roots levels across the North West for their achievements supporting and bringing communities together.
The category was won by Andrew Graystone, who after hearing about the attacks on mosques in New Zealand, stood outside of his local mosque in Manchester with a sign saying “You are my friends. I will keep watch while you pray”. Within 24 hours photos of him had gone viral on social media and he received over 100,000 personal messages of support from around the world for his actions.
The event highlighted a number of moving stories, the amazing achievements of individuals and the work going on everyday across the North West to support community cohesion. The project team feel incredibly proud to have been finalists alongside such a strong field of contenders.
