Instant Classic: Fury-Wilder III; 10.09.21
SNBoxing wrote this about the unforgettable match this past Saturday night in Las Vegas:
“Fury-Wilder 3 transcended the notion of a boxing match, even a great one. The fight included five knockdowns, three from Fury and two from Wilder, and resulted in a Fury 11th-round stoppage, but even those eye-catching statistics fail to capture the nature of what transpired in the ring. Fury-Wilder 3 will be remembered for the ferocity of its combat, the unyielding determination of its fighters, and how each combatant was unwilling to succumb.”
Have a look at the previous fights here and here....now lets have a look at each man’s gear for the third fight:
Fury repeated his template from the previous two fights, although in this iteration the background of his trunks include gray-filtered images of him throughout his career.
Gold and forest green side paneling as well, with a black waistband with FURY in gold across the front, and GYPSY KING across the back. He wore the same lime green and gold Paffin Sport gloves as his previous two fights:
He wore black and gold Nike footwear:
The critiques are similar to previous iterations - the shades of greens on his side panels and gloves don’t match, its always hard to find matching gold shades across brands and materials. That said, I think Tyson’s look is great and worthy of such an outstanding and historically important fight. It also meshed well with Wilder’s colors and look.
Wilder had a very unusual trunk cut. It essentially appeared to be a unevenly torn kilt at knee length on his right leg to mid/lower thigh on his left. I didn’t love it. I did love the colors and pattern he chose:
Red trunks with a black drawn circular patterns, silver waistband with WILDER in his usual font across the front and BRONZE BOMBER across the back. He also sported black knee length leggings with silver trim. Some trunk detail:
Wilder wore standard black Everlast gloves with white trim, which I think was a great choice given the flashiness of his trunks.
As usual, outstanding footwear from Wilder:
Altogether, I really liked what Wilder did, even though I didn’t love the cut of the trunks. He put together a unique, unforgettable look with a great color scheme for a historic fight - that’s what this blog is all about.
...what an astonishing display of courage, toughness and determination by both men.
