Further with…The Disintegration Loops I-IV (MMLXII/2062, 2001-2003)
In the next of our continuing 'Further with...' series we consider William Basinski's The Disintegration Loops. This work comprises six unique loops spread over four separately released discs.
Extracts from compositions Basinski had recorded to tape in the 1980s provide the source material for these loops. As they were replayed to be digitised the magnetic tape flaked and corroded to varying degrees, we hear the results.
Through the week we will be posting a series of connected sources, a hypothetical "further listening"(/reading!) list.
