The spring magazines may be out for us, but since it is still plenty cold where I live, I thought I’d feature this skating scene from the March, 1912 issue of Ladies Home Journal. You may not see how she could skate in such a long skirt, but at least long skirts keep you warm, and hers clearly has some flare. What I noticed was the muff. These often had a little band so you could hang onto it from the inside, plus little pockets to slip your things into, so that they served as a kind of purse and hand warmer all at once. I have some faux Persian lamb I have made a hat out of and I really think a muff is in order too, don’t you?
