franky represents an interesting take on the whole inherited will theme of the story, because he takes it a step too far. he inherits tom’s will, but he also directly takes on tom’s dream of making water 7 a better place. which isn’t a bad thing, and he does a lot of good. but he abandons his true dream in the process.
and while his dream is greatly inspired by tom, it has elements that are franky and franky alone. he wants to sail his dream ship and see it to its end, something that tom never did.
it just shows that, while inherited will and taking on the torch of the past generation is important, it’s also important to walk your own path and do your own thing.
