Favorite thing about them: I don’t think he knows it, but Jamie is one of the people that I value most in my life-- he listens, he cares. He’s someone who truly means something when he says it, which counts more than beautiful lies.

Perhaps she had taken his suggestion to test her breaking point a little too seriously. Sylv pushed back her long hair sloppily, glancing around the bar with half-lidded, sleepy eyes. Her determination had lead to one too many, the shot glasses littered the pool table like little glass sentries on a mossy hill-- a worried look from Hawk had her breaking into manic laughter, shaking her head quickly at his following question. Are you okay?

Too quickly, cerebral fluid sloshed to match the protesting contents of her stomach, a manicured hand raised to her mouth as she bolted for the nearest exist. From behind her she could hear the twinkling of laughter from her companions, Victor’s quiet snicker paired with Bisi’s high, rolling chuckle. The door was nearly shut when heavy boots matched it, taking long strides to join her when she gripped onto the bars of the patio, sucking in a deep breath of cool, night air.

For the first time in a long time, Sylv pushed back sweaty hair, not caring if she looked disheveled. Her fingers clumsily pawed for a cigarette in her purse, and the query floated up again between them. Instead, this time she gestured to the end of the unlit Kent, waiting for him to produce a lighter. Inked fingers produced a flame from deep in his pockets and she inhaled, shaking her head in final answer. 

“No,” the brunette answered. A crease appeared between dark brows, her companion’s head canted. She smiled briefly at his sudden, almost immediate injection of how pretty she looked. It was normally an easy fix, but her lower lip trembled instead. “I miss them.” Her hand gestured towards the stars, towards souls that were no longer nearby.
