Róisín was born in Ireland but moved to Brooklyn as a little girl without her parents, but with her brother Shay, a previous owner of Evangeline’s kerosene lamp (who I probably haven’t talked about as much as I should, there’s still so much more development I have to do for him aaaaaaaaaaaaaa), and they joined the circus a few years later while Alastair’s father was still in charge to try and find some stability after a few years adrift.

Initially he didn’t want them around since, while Shay was old enough to work there, Shay was also kind of an antisocial and difficult person to be around and Róisín was just a kid and even by Victorian child labour standards, he didn’t want to be That Guy, but she already showed a lot of talent and some of the resident dancers (who didn’t want to have a baby because of their careers but who could handle a kid who was older) took her in, while Shay worked backstage since he was decidedly Not a performer 

She started learning to dance almost as soon as she could walk, but her talent really began to translate to skill under the tutelage of said dancers

She doesn’t like nicknames much, but Shay had a few playful insults that she tolerated, and a lot of people call her Ro since her name is hard to pronounce (Ro-sheen, which is not how it’s spelled because Ireland). Alastair calls her Rosie and he’s the only one who gets to do that.

She was the driving force in her and Alastair’s relationship, who is somewhat romantically oblivious. This was after he returned to take over from his father, when she was about 20 and he about 30

This was what part of what caused the rift between her and Shay before Shay died (other than like, magic and supernatural bullshit and Shay’s general instability but that’s getting into [spoilers] again), since he didn’t trust Alastair with family secrets and stuff, and as an afterthought, didn’t approve of the age gap between them.

She’s very, very awkward around kids and is never quite sure how to deal with them, but she tries really hard and likes kids a lot and wants to have them

She can’t cook for shit and consistently burns things despite her best intentions. She can basically make soup and tea and not much else

She’s horribly allergic to cats which breaks her heart since she loves them (Alastair is more of a dog person, but she’s not overly fond, so combined with the rather nomadic circus lifestyle, they have no pets).

A fabulous actor, helpful for both her career as a performer and for lying, which she does a lot because of Reasons
