So once upon a time, there was sleep deprivation and people in need of laughs, and after thinking of various Free!Fairytales, laughterinthewindow and I arrived at Frozen. Thus, I propose to you, this cast with my too-long reasoning below the cut.
Haru as Princess Elsa
Nagisa as Princess Anna
Rei as Prince Hans
Makoto as Kristoff (with his family as the trolls)
Sousuke as the Duke of Weasletown Wesleton
Iwatobi as Olaf
Rin as Marshmallow
Reasons and storyline under the cut.
It only makes sense for Haru to be Elsa becau- no... I'll be honest. I just want to imagine the Let it Go transformation sequence, only instead of a dress, Haru's winter clothes all turn into his swimsuit and maybe a cape and instead of a castle, he built a swimming pool. Then the song ends with him diving into the water.
The overall story would be that although Haru loved swimming in his childhood, everyone always told Haru it was too cold to swim in the winter, even though he was perfectly fine with it because of his ice powers. Constant disobedience eventually led to reprimanding which agitated him. Haru often accidentally froze the water when agitated, and thus many people in the castle disapproved of him swimming at all.
As a result, Haru resigned himself to spend all his time in the bathtub, but because he was miserable about not being able to swim, he often froze over the bathwater, making it bathice and not water at all. This made him incredibly miserable and it became a bit of a negative cycle.
On another note, whereas Elsa as her gloves, Haru's equivalent would probably just be all his clothes.
Nagisa was the best option for Princess Anna for various reasons, but mainly because of the similarity in disposition and also the nature of Anna's songs. Do You Want to Build a Snowman, for example, had much potential with this relationship, especially if instead of an Olaf, we had a certain school mascot instead. Thus, Do You Want to Build a Snowbird was born along with Iwatobi for the childhood symbol of their relationship.
For the First Time in Forever would be less about coronation day and more about Nagisa's own eagerness to swim. Maybe it's spring and it's finally warm enough for him to swim, even though Haru probably won't be allowed to. This part is not as well thought out, I implore my fellow Tumblrites to assist me.
However, due to the wonderful song known as Love is an Open Door, I personally had a great need to have Rei act as Prince Hans, but don't worry! This idea has an alternate ending and history for Hans befitting one of Rei's disposition. In truth, Prince Rei of the Southern Isles really did fall in love with Nagisa at first sight, but the reason he went after Haru when Haru ran away was because he can't swim.
Out of all his siblings in the Southern Isles, Prince Rei was the only one who couldn't swim. Rather, he thought swimming ugly and never bothered to learn it, but upon his parents' insistence, he heard of Prince Haru of Arendelle who, as a child, was renown for swimming as gracefully as a dolphin. Thus, he went to visit Arendelle to ask Haru to teach him how to swim but met Nagisa and went through the whole romance sequence until Haru ran away, Nagisa went after Haru, and then Rei desperately chased after Haru because that was his future swimming teacher there.
In any case, things happen, Haru leaves in a huff and accidentally causes an eternal winter. Let it Go happens, only the song is about swimming all year around, even in winter ice water, instead of just concealing his powers. Nagisa shows up, and the For the First Time in Forever (reprise) would go something like the following:
Haru: Just stay away and we can all swim free.
Nagisa: Actually, we can't.
Haru: ...What do you mean we can't?
Nagisa: I get the feeling you don't know.
Haru: ...What do I not know?
Nagisa: Arendelle's in deep, deep, deep, deep, snow.
Haru: ?
Nagisa: You accidentally froze all the water... everywhere.
Haru: ?!
However, upon seeing Haru's magnificent swimming pool, Nagisa comes up with a wonderful solution which is basically, "Oh! We can bring everyone here instead!!" and Haru just imagines his beautiful pool filled completely with people and no water.
Just at that moment, Rei bursts in spouting, "Haru-san, please teach me how to swim!" but Haru doesn't hear it because he's too busy freaking out, thinking "Oh no, it's starting" and "Must protect pool" and shenanigans ensue.
This is getting kind of long, so I'll zip through the rest. Not sure what happens here, but somehow we'll make it so that Rei and Nagisa get a romantic moment alone together, and we can slip in the line "Oh, Nagisa... If only you were beautiful," although we'd need some context, and the two would still get together but then at the end of the story, Rei would get punched into the water like his Frozen counterpart for, in Nagisa's words, "That's for saying I'm not pretty!"
They get their happily ever after in the end.
Makoto ended up Kristoff because of his family and also because this would be an interesting twist on the Fixer-Upper song because... well, not a lot of people have a lot of things to say that Makoto has to fix. Maybe we could mention his fear of water and things happen. Besides, Nagisa needs a more stable force like Makoto to actually make it to Haru in one piece through the accidental eternal winter storm.
Rin is Marshmallow because he can be a snowman created to guard the pool (inspired by the Free! Eternal Summer ED) only instead of actual guarding, he ends up challenging Haru to swimming a lot, and as a creature of ice, he can swim in the ice water, woo.
I actually am not caught up with Eternal Summer yet, but Sousuke seems pretty antagonistic against Haru so he can be Duke of Wesleton for now. I wasn't sure how to work in Gou or Nitori but maybe they can be Oaken or salespeople or so. Your ideas are welcome.
Anyway, the ending is just anticlimatic because Haru undoes the winter after finding happiness and content with his friends, and because he is emotionally at peace, he can swim without freezing anything.
To take this a humorous step further, he also learns that he doesn't just make ice, he can control it, meaning he can melt it all if he wants to, which he does and thus the ocean is warm enough for everyone to swim, yay.
But because ice is the main export of Arendelle, the economy fails, yay.
So this was the way too long Frozen! idea that I only took the time to post because I desperately desire fanart. The end. Going to sleep.
