‘stay for me.’
SOFT ANGST STARTERS.
how naive had he been to expect the life he left would be waiting for him when he returned? two years had passed. two years for them to change, grow, experience new things. and he’s been stagnant, a distant memory in the minds of most. sometimes it frustrates him, feeling out of place even within the confines of a place he once called home. and her, they’ve been closer than this –far closer than the strangers they seem to be now.
maybe he’s a bit hurt at the prospect of having his memory erased, and he blames himself for all the pain he put her through when he died. although it goes unspoken, it tears a fissure between them, creating a hurdle he’s not quite sure he’s gathered the strength to jump over. so he fills it with small talk, the most pathetic variety of small nothings as the seconds turn into minutes and minutes turn into hours.
he’s about to leave and with one foot out the door already, it’d be so easy. but she holds him back with a request to stay for her. has he ever been able refuse her? there’s a hesitation on his end, a brief moment of contemplation that’s ended with him shutting the door he’d only just opened. ❛ –ok. ❜ his voice cuts through the silence as he makes his way back to her, taking the seat next to her that’s still fit to his shape.
❛ are we just gonna pretend for tonight that everything isn’t a mess? ❜
