Frostliner - Official Announcement Trailer
Frostliner: Build Your Fortress on Rails
Frostliner the ultimate survival city-builder game on rails, rolling onto Steam Deck and Linux via Windows PC compatibility. This epic journey wouldn’t exist without the boundless creativity of developer Nathan Gane. Which is on a mission for Steam. Picture this: the moon above us shatters in a blinding flash, and in its wake, an eternal winter descends. Civilization collapses under the weight of frost and rubble, and humanity’s last hope is a runaway behemoth barrelling through the wasteland: the Frostliner.
I am planning to support the steam deck, which also means that I will support Linux.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5.4, Frostliner delivers buttery-smooth gameplay without a port—and let’s be honest, plenty of UE5 titles actually shine on Steam Deck and Linux with Proton. Here, you’re its captain. This isn’t just any train. The Frostliner is a steel city on rails—a self-expanding survival city-builder and fortress you create piece by piece. So you can slap down carriage after carriage, each busy with workshops, living quarters, and power plants. The bigger your train, the stronger its heartbeat: stack facilities side by side to unlock adjacency bonuses. Due to turn a flimsy diesel car into a powerhouse lab, furnace, or nest of defenses. Every stop you make is a gamble. You haul on the brakes, roll out into the frozen hellscape, and scramble to scavenge scrap, fuel, and brave souls who’ll join your ragtag crew. But the moment your wheels hush, the train’s heaters start to die. Your reserved batteries tick down on a tense timer — since every second gets closer to frostbite, every breath heavier in the thin air.
Frostliner - Announcement Trailer
Fuel is your lifeblood. Coal, oil, even more…unconventional sources. When resources run low, you unlock a harrowing research tree. “Corpse furnace,” reads one grim entry: transform fallen passengers into the fire that keeps you moving. It’s a brutal choice, but in the world of the Frostliner, mercy is a currency you can’t afford. And then come the threats. Mutated scavengers, warlords, strange creatures drawn by the promise of your moving oasis. Fail to wipe them out, and they become relentless pursuers, hounding you across miles of ice. You can’t hide—the wasteland offers no cover. Instead, you ramp up your train’s speed, your engines roaring in defiance, or you invest in turrets and armored hatches, turning your mobile city into a rolling citadel. With every survivor you rescue, new possibilities open. Tinkerers craft better heaters, engineers lay down rail guns, and medics patch up the wounded. But they also demand more—food, warmth, entertainment. Balance their needs against the frozen world’s harsh demands, and you’ll keep morale high. Let them starve or freeze, and despair seeps through the Frostliner’s steel veins.
Compatibility
Here’s where you come in: Frostliner is breaking free onto Steam Deck and native Linux via Windows PC compatibility. No more Windows-only chains holding you back. Load it up on your SteamOS rig, crank up the sliders, and experience the chill in highest fidelity. Whether you’re huddled in your command chair or clutching your handheld deck on the couch, you’ll feel the roar of the engine and the bite of the frost. So gather your wits, steel your nerves, and take the helm of humanity’s last hope. Every track laid, every car built, every life saved—or sacrificed—writes the saga of your Frostliner. The ice will test you. The enemies will hunt you. But as long as you keep moving, you keep hope alive in this survival city-builder. Are you ready to brave the freeze? Jump aboard and let the rails of destiny carry you into legend. The release is due to hit Steam in 2026.
