The last time he was at the Old Chateau, he had caught Rotom. At the time, rumors about the abandoned mansion had terrified him. People said it was haunted by a scary ghost Pokemon, but no one could catch it. He had explored the place with his Pokemon thinking to find nothing. Instead, they found the Rotom, the Pokemon that was haunting the place. Or so he thought.
This time, Lucas had an uneasy feeling about the place. Just standing outside the building waiting on both Dawn and Barry made the hair on the back of his neck stand up. It felt like people were watching him. Closely.
He wanted to leave. He wanted to get out of Eterna Forest and never come back. But he promised. He promised both his friends he’d explore the mansion with them. He promised them that they’d find treasure in there.Â
But where were they? Were they running late? Was he too early? The longer he waited outside, the more vulnerable he felt to the forces that were watching him.
Then, all of a sudden, an idea! What if Barry and Dawn were watching him? How’d he feel a lot better, if they were.
“B-Barry! D-Dawn! I-If you’re h-hiding and wa-watching me, y-you can c-come out n-now.” He stuttered, trying his hardest to sound brave.

According to Barry, it happened on the evening of a Twinleaf Festival two or three years ago--because even with a super-sharp Sinnohan memory, he couldn’t be expected to remember all the details. The annual event brought the sleepy little town to life, with battles, carnival games, and tasting booths. Busy on their dual journeys, Barry and Dawn hadn’t been to such a party in what felt like ages. However, they showed up this time--partly due to Johanna’s insistence--determined to have a fun little evening in their hometown.
After Barry almost spent all of his savings on winning a fluffy Elekid plush at a rigged stand, the pair walked around excitedly, taking in the cheerful atmosphere and catching up between mouthfuls of festival fare. Talking in person was much better than beeping back and forth on a Poketch, and the childhood neighbors spun tales until bright stars plastered the sky.
Special to this year, Johanna had really gone all out, procuring some fireworks to conclude quite the enjoyable night. As the sky lit up with glittering Pokemon-shaped explosions, Barry and Dawn clambered up a nearby hill, hand-in-hand. They had figured out this somewhat-secluded spot long ago, and giggled at its nostalgic return into their lives. The blond spread out a blanket from home on the grass and glanced over at Dawn with a grin. His best friend was smiling back at him, pyrotechnic reflections dancing in her eyes. Her past harrowing experiences, for once, seemed thousands of thoughts away...
And then he felt her lips on his own.
Neither of them moved for awhile, but as reality set in, the spell was broken--two Trainers, red-faced, sputtering apologies and stumbling over their words. The sheer ridiculousness of the aftermath was so stereotypical that the pair’s apprehension soon gave way to laughter. How silly was this?
Barry looked up at the colorful sky and squeezed Dawn’s hand, who rested her head on his shoulder. He felt a warm feeling flicker to life in his heart--he wasn’t worried about the past or the future for once--a wonderful, free, feeling.
