@Regranned from @jessicamatten - A glimpse of Frontier’s storyline tonight. The producers were inspired by the stories and statistics I shared with them about our missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada. In this episode, Sokanon’s storyline will touch on human trafficking of Indigenous girls and how this stemmed from colonialism. The very same system which continues to perpetuate the viscous cycles of abuse and mistreatment of our women and girls in Canada due to our society and even within Native communities being taught that Native women are somehow “less than” other human beings. Native people were stripped of their culture, land and banned to speak their languages and were put into Christian and Catholic residential schools and were severely abused physically, sexually, mentally, emotionally and even experimented on. The last residential school existed in our generation 1994. So when I hear “get over it”, I remind them of this. Our people and families are still trying to break negative cycles within their own families and healing. It will take time. My family has been affected by the tragic loss of a murdered loved one and still deal with the pain and trauma everyday seeking justice and trying to get our country to understand our family member is not “less than” and should be taken ALOT more seriously with the same investigations and justice a Caucasian person’s case would have received immediately. But it is unfortunately not so, and is the case for almost ALL Native girls and women who go missing in Canada. There are over 2000 cases. It is a relief to see that social media has allowed people to have a voice and demand justice where there has been lacking for decades, if not centuries. I remain skeptical, yet hopeful for the future. Thank you to everyone who continues to help generate awareness on this issue. ❤️ All my relations. I dedicate this episode to Gerri, Kim, Pierre and our whole family and to The Joseph family in Six Nations and all families suffering from their loss. Always in my heart, always on my mind. ❤️ . . #frontiernetflix #mmiw #mmwig #mmiwgfamilies #sokanon #nativegirls #nativewomen #jasonmomoa - #regrann
