mark fumbles whenever he’s tryna get romantical ( and he’s kinda an awkward/dry texter because he overthinks a lot ) - they’re both very much idiots though.
i also hdc that mark takes so long to respond back, he’s either overthinking a response or he’s seen it but forgets to respond until way later. rex isn’t bothered all that much, he keeps sending messages throughout the day and sometimes spams him with tiktok vids he finds funny.
i’d like to think that mark wouldn’t care either way, but rex would 100% be into light p.d.a.
nothing outright uncomfortable. just casually hooking his ankles around mark’s leg beneath a table, or doing the cliched yawn-arm-stretch so his arm drapes over mark’s shoulders ( mark has pointed out that he could just do it without all the theatrics but rex responded that that’s just boring ). whenever mark’s in jeans, rex pulls mark by the belt loops to get his attention. rex tries to do it when mark least expects so he can see him blush. whenever rex wants to see something on mark’s phone, he leans his head onto mark’s shoulder. when they’re standing rex is more taller ( by a bit, methinks ) just enough that he casually rests his chin on mark’s shoulder and crowds in on him from behind.
what they love about one another
mark loves how utterly fearless rex is. he’s so proud to have someone like rex who, despite his mortality, always puts himself on the front lines. after his fight with nolan, mark was shocked to discover that rex wanted to fight off omni man right alongside him - even when he knew that it was pointless, and that he could die brutally - it warmed mark to think that rex was just that selfless. that he cared for humanity.

mark and rex feel like they have dark blue and orange aesthetic
tried to find the right shades but it’s like a midnight blue and a burnt orange. blue being mark - having a melancholic, emotionally repressed, and more thoughtful vibe. while orange is very much rex - acts on instinct, impulsive ( reckless sometimes ) and being unapologetically himself.
the colors together, for me, is their relationship. which is turbulent, but healing, and deeply intense. with mark’s - “you bring color to my life” and rex’s- “i keep you from burning out” kind of tone.

this is an au ( or maybe a canon divergent fic? ) where mark owns a comicbook store while also still being [ title card ].
rex owns a tattoo parlor. i chose that instead of a mechanic. not because rex is too dumb or wtv, but because i think it’d be interesting that he became something a tad left feild like a tattoo artist. the reasoning could be that it gives him the control he needs - over pain and body image - and that it requires precision that he finds calming. it’s intimate and artistic without requiring emotional vulnerability.
plus, in this fic, rex has old scars from his hero-ing days. ( because how could he not??? ) he’s retired from hero work and shares an apartment with his best friend and boyfriend mark
