In the Frog Kingdom, we have a very strict pool floatie policy.

There must always be one.

Nobody remembers exactly when this law was introduced, or who introduced it. But it is now considered one of the oldest and most important traditions in the Kingdom.

A pool floatie may be used for floating.

It may also be used as a chair.

A bed.

A throne.

A meeting place.

A convenient platform from which to stare mysteriously into the distance.

Or, occasionally, as a means of being gently pushed around the pool by another frog.

There are no incorrect ways to use a pool floatie.

Over the months, many floaties have entered the Kingdom. Some have been immediately claimed. Some have been fought over. Some have carried multiple frogs at once despite clearly not being designed for such responsibility.

And some have simply sat there while a frog chose to sit next to them instead.

But every floatie has served its purpose.

Because life in the Frog Kingdom can be demanding.

There are bugs to hunt.

Bowls to sit in.

Photoshoots to interrupt.

Kingdom affairs to oversee.

And sometimes, after a long day of doing almost absolutely nothing...

A frog simply needs to float.

Every kingdom begins with a single home...

Long before Frog Kingdom became the bustling little world it is today, there was only one enclosure.

What is now known as Spoor's Pastelween Kingdom was the original home of Shroom, Buggy, Zog and Algae. It was here that the first adventures began, where the very first bug hunts took place, and where Frog Kingdom slowly started to grow.

As time passed, the kingdom welcomed new residents, and it soon became clear that the original lands were no longer large enough for everyone. So the kingdom expanded.

A second, much larger enclosure was created, becoming the new Main Kingdom, while the original enclosure found a new purpose as the Grow-Out Kingdom, giving young frogs a safe place to grow before joining the others.

Ironically, the little frog who inspired this chapter eventually returned home.

Despite her enormous personality, Queen Spoor remained much smaller than the rest of the kingdom. To give her the best opportunity to grow without competing for food, she moved back into the original enclosure, where she now rules over a kingdom entirely her own.

While the Main Kingdom embraced pumpkins, skeletons and spooky Halloween décor, Queen Spoor had other ideas...

Pink blossoms, cozy mushrooms, and a vibe fit for a queen!

The result became something Frog Kingdom followers now know as Pastelween... a little world where Halloween meets cottagecore.

🌿 Why are the Frog Kingdoms sterile?

One question I get asked quite often is why my enclosures don't use bioactive soil or live plants.

The answer is actually quite simple: I chose sterile setups because they work best for both me and my frogs.

With removable flooring, washable decorations and open layouts, I can quickly spot droppings, uneaten food and sheds before they become a problem.

Cleaning takes minutes instead of hours, helping me keep bacteria and mould to a minimum while making it much easier to monitor each frog's health.

It also means I always know exactly where my frogs are sleeping (well... most of the time), and I can keep a close eye on things like appetite, shedding and behaviour.

Bioactive enclosures are beautiful and work brilliantly for many keepers, but every keeper finds a system that suits both them and their animals.

For Frog Kingdom, a clean, easy-to-maintain sterile setup has always been the right choice.

And judging by the nightly bug hunts, floatie parties and mushroom baths... I don't think the residents are complaining. 🐸💚
