âLeave it alone⌠For your sake and mine.â ( WALDEN HAHAH AM I SORRY NOT REALLY )
âFor my sake, thatâs funny.â
Disbelief hung in the air and Alice shook her head. The amount of anger she felt was something so uncomfortable, even if it was warranted in this situation.Â
                   That. Damn. Club.Â
The fact that he joined it, the fact that he stayed just⌠â e v e r y t h i n g that associated Walden with the club â the people it attracted, the people around him, the eerie sense of wickedness that it eluded to â she didnât like it. Alice even more didnât like that after so many years he was still there.Â
She couldnât help but ask, she couldnât help but want to constantly badger him about it at times because over the years it had just become and ever growing elephant in the room. While she could easily live in denial when it came to certain feelings of hers â she couldnât when it came to issues of morality. Those she faced head on, ruthlessly almost. Persistent.Â
It was ambitious to fight with him on it, of course, she knew him â she knew him.Â
( That statement may have not been true in present tense    but it had always been true in past tense. MAYBE if she     tried hard enough, sheâd u n r a v e l the mystery of why â    or maybe she already had.    Maybe she already KNEW     and was in denial once more. Did a p p r o v a l really mean     that                                    much?     )
( DID SHE REALLY MEAN THAT LITTLE?            HAD  SHE  E V E R  BEEN  ENOUGH? )
âNone of this is for my sake, itâs only for yours, â her emotions were getting the better of her and the kindness that usually coated her words turned into a bitterness of sorts â bitter because she had tried so hard, she was trying so hard, but was it all for nought?Â
Had she been wasting her time being a friend to someone who didnât value her as much as he valued acceptance?           â-      Walden MacNair was not a waste of time, Alice.Â
âItâs only for yours. I can take care of myself, just because some of them donât think so doesnât mean itâs not the truth. You know that. Youâre â this is for your sake. Donât you dare say this has anything to do with me. If you cared, youâd leave. Then, it would be for my sake.â Possibly a selfish conclusion, but it didnât matter â it was already said.
Alice bit her lip, looking off for a few moments, playing back the words she practically spat at him. Tears threatened to fall down her face but she had to hold them back. She couldnât break down in front of him, not when she was fighting for some piece of morality she knew he possessed.Â
âYouâre better than this. I have to believe that.âÂ
