♚ show me your teeth
The sound of gunshots is hardly an unfamiliar thing at this point, his childhood alone defined by the harsh pop going off somewhere in the darker streets of his neighborhood. It defined every holiday, that question of whether it was fireworks or bullets causing the echoing blasts. It was always safer to err on the side of bullets. And it’s that sound that echoes through the station now, punctuated by crashing glass and an inhuman snarling that threatens to curve icy fingers around his heart.
It seems somehow inevitable now, aware that they’ve been holed up in relative safety since a chasm opened up in the world. There’s a quiet frustration he doesn’t touch on, the thought that none of his tricks or talents will be enough to keep them safe. The runes he’s drawn around the door, the magic that was passed down to him, it’s little compared to what might be coming after them now.
His first thought is towards demons. He cuts it off before it can suffocate him.
His gun is drawn first, the familiar weight in his hand a comforting thing as he heads towards the front. Likely towards danger, if the noise greeting him is any indication. He doesn’t have a line of sight on it yet, no real idea whether it’s hell hounds or the things that control them that might be smashing through the doorway now. But if his sense of self preservation always sits forefront in his mind, at some point Maya took precedence above it. If it’s a weakness, he’ll deal with it later.
If his gaze is intent on searching for a head of dark hair, he catches sight of the redhead first. His steps pause briefly by her, searching for injuries or indication what’s happening.
“You alright?”
