''A dressmaker meets a gentleman dressed in black in the evening, riding a mare who is also all black, who descends & ask him to hold the bridle of his mount.

As soon he's away, the dressmaker sees tears streaming from the mare's eyes, &, thinking he sees the Devil, he makes the sign of the cross.

But immediately she recovers the ability to speak, & tells him that she's condemned to serve as a mount for the demon, until she has been bloodied.''
