There are many, many guides on how to build an online reputation, social media, website, there are differing opinions on whether or not to use paid services, lots of advice out there. Â Iâm pointing out that this is my personal method of building websites and this is what I do for my clients when they need one. Â This is not a definitive guide on creating a website and I advise readers to do lots of research. Â Your local library is a great place to look.
1. Â Create accounts. Â Have a business account for everything. Â Use the following links. Â Visit the following link for my favorites. Â
2.  Get and choose a domain name.  Your domain should be easy to spell, easy to remember, and should reflect itâs purpose.  For the extremely frugal, http://dot.tk provides free domain name services, where as most other, similar providers only offer sub-domains, ex. âwww.MyWebsite.FreeWebsiteForYou.comâ.  Note that these domain registrations are temporary, ranging from three to twelve months, and must be renewed.  If youâre looking to make the first page of Google, you should know that these âdot TKâ domains are only âpseudo-top-level domainsâ, and donât carry the search engine ranking PR of standard top-level domains. Â
3.  Reserve social media.  For example, even though Iâm not currently producing any content for YouTube, I reserved my handle or, âusernameâ so that if and when I do decide to produce video content, I wonât have any complications.  This can also be referred to as âname squattingâ, and if youâre not careful, by the time your brand is big enough to get a lot of Internet traffic youâll be redirecting your clientele to someone elseâs website.  Â
4. Â Build a website. Â Although you could break out the <HTML> and host your website from a homemade server, Iâm going to lay out three simple options which will suit most users. Â Option A is paying for hosting through a provider like http://1and1.comÂ
