freelance animation
After deciding freelance was the way I wanted to go I began looking into the different freelance animators. Because I’m interested in stop motion, CG and 2D I wanted to find something where I would get the chance to focus on what I wanted once I decided what I actually like.
Most stop motion work tends to be freelance work and they break into the industry having honed their skills and putting their work into the world. Which is something I find interesting because I think I like stop motion and being able to just have that creative freedom is something I want.
As 2D and CG are both things that interest me I was looking at if there's any freelance job that I can do both with and stumbled upon Forensic animator. They use their skills to help investigators piece together crime scenes and collate evidence for presentation to a jury. For this you will need to be able to work in both 2D and 3D (mainly 3D from what I’ve seen.) and re-create real life locations and scenarios. An already established animator can transfer over to forensic animation via a specialist course. (Nearly always freelance based) you will need a really strong mind and stomach also as some of the stuff you mind end up seeing will be pretty graphic or disturbing.
