Ich kann wohl schlecht so ein Tshirt entwerfen und mich dann raushalten. #freeirdorath Demo um 12 vor der Botschaft Belarus. Denn #howcanartnotbepolitical. #KunstFordertOpfer war anders gemeint, Herrschaften. Danke @corvuscoraxofficial fürs Organisieren. https://www.instagram.com/p/CSoXNC9owR4/?utm_medium=tumblr
I wanted to keep this blog as real-life and politics free as possible, but, well. I'm very emotional about this, and I want to fucking say something because there's not much I'm able to do otherwise, and I'm not willing to do any sideblogs, so bear with me.
There's this Eastern European country, Belarus. You may have heard of it in connection with the protests against election fraud in 2020. Maybe you've heard the name Lukashenko.
Maybe you've also heard of the methods he uses against his people.
Now there's this band, Irdorath. They happened to agree with the protesters, and went to such lengths as to play their music at the protests, oh my. For that crime, they are now detained and face 4 years of jail.
I won't go into the details of what getting arrested and/or jailed means in most post-Soviet countries. Suffice it to say that the majority of our so-called law enforcement systems is rooted in Soviet labor camps and their methods.
I'm not Belarusian. I'm Ukrainian. A neighbor who knows what it's like. A person who got through some difficult times hanging on to Irdorath's music for dear life.
And I don't want them to experience that.
Here's the link to read more and to lend a hand, if you can and wish to.
And here's my favorite song of theirs, to let you know what they're like.
