When our friend was pulling El Rey from the shelter, a worker made it a point to say not so nice things about him and even called him an a$$hole out loud ☹️. He wasn’t discouraged one bit and El Rey has proved to be everything but an a$$hole. He acclimated to his family immediately. It’s like he knew he was home as soon as he got in the car. His family says he is a wonderful dog. Very loving and playful and smart. Back in November of last year I met him, he was terrified and showing defensive behavior towards everyone. A staff member came up and asked if I would work with him. I made him a promise, if he would trust me. I would do everything I could to get him out. I have made that promise to a few dogs. Overtime we became friends. He became affectionate. I introduced him to other people. He became playful. He became a carefree lovable dog in the yard. Unfortunately, he had some bumps with the staff apparently in his kennel… And having been there about a year he was time stamped today for 4 PM. Many people helped out with him. Trying to get him seen. Trying to get him free. Try to get him safe. He was rescued by… @bubblesdogrescue - networked by many…. @thelilyofthenile @anita.clarke @rita_earl_blackwell @m3timzm3timz3 he had many friends at North Central… @jimmyconnolly @northcentralshelter @priscillaojohnston and more of all. also thank you to Keith Oberman‘s dogs on Twitter… Thank you to everyone who pledged. Thank you to everyone who shared. Thank you to everyone who reposted. Thank you… You made a difference. Also, thank you to the staff for keeping him safe and healthy all that time. Thank you to the life saving liaison who helped coordinate his exit… It literally takes only one person to surrender an animal… But it took a year and hundreds of people to get him out. He is one of the lucky ones. And I say that after he spent nearly a year in concrete and steel. Please do not surrender your animals. I certainly cannot mention everyone. Way too many people truly cared about this dog. I talked to half a dozen rescues for a long time on the phone about him.
