He had been the only one to ever see the real Elsa, and not lose his memory. But both of them could have known a relationship between a rebellious viking and a terrified princess wouldn’t last. And it was such a surprise, at least to Elsa, that it lasted for almost three years, before they decided it would be better for both of them to end the relationship.
She had been twenty two by the time they broke up, still locked up in her room, hiding away from the world and especially her dear sister. Her only times out were during special dinners with family, or when she sneaked out of the castle to visit the village, or her partner, when she was still together with Hiccup.
After five years, Elsa would turn twenty seven later this year, she still had not forgotten about it at all. But her life had changed a lot. The times she sneaked out of the castle had gone from weekly to monthly and eventually she just didn’t leave her room anymore. The times her room was completely frozen over had increased and right after her parents’ dead, a few months ago, the ice and snow hadn’t left, so a thick layer of snow constantly covered the floor and furniture and it was always freezing inside.
But Elsa had to move on from everything, from her parents’ dead, as well as from Hiccup and her powers, because her coronation was in today. She prepared herself for hours, but still failed to control her powers without the gloves she had gotten used to.
So, Elsa was relieved to find out that, even when she had to take them off during the actual crowning, no one had found out about her powers. During the coronation ball, after the crowning, she had talked to Anna, something she hadn’t done for years. And for the first time in forever, she was actually feeling happy.
That was, until some important guests were introduced to her and her sister, who never left her side. A duke, some duchess, the youngest prince of a nearby kingdom and the princess of a kingdom she had heard her father talk about. Then there were some more people she was introduced to, but the last in line caught her Elsa’s attention and she couldn’t focuss anylonger.
Kai introduced the man, Elsa bowed and Anna just giggled, like Anna did each time and attractive person was introduced. A few polite words were shared, before Kai lead him away again. Anna left too, a couple of minutes later, to dance with the prince and Elsa was alone again, overthinking too much and already feeling her emotions taking over.
And the only way to stop herself from losing control, was talk to the cause of her current emotions. Or at least that was what she told herself. The Queen walked through the crowded room, faking a smile at people who looked at her, until she reached her target.
She reached her hand out at first, to gently touch his shoulder, but pulled back just in time and softly coughed, to catch his attention without having to touch him. When he turned around, she quickly glared down, her eyes fixated on his prosthetic. “Hiccup.” She whispered and hoped no one looked at them. “What are you doing in Arendelle?”
