Infographic Thinking – Workshop with Francesco Franchi

I've long admired the work of Francesco Franchi. His infographics were the first that I ever saw that made me think that data could be beautiful (and should be). He designs an italian financial newspaper's monthly magazine, and his work is simple, complex, beautiful and stark all at the same time. I feel like his work is participatory in the sense that he is giving the public tools to make their own decisions using the data that he visualizes. By giving the public the chance to synthesize this information on their own, the data takes on new meaning, and can be moved from the sphere of pure statistics, entering into a larger conversation about the issues.
