Hey, E-vay, this is something that’s been bugging me: is there ever a point when Aurora’s attempt to force Shadow to join public events backfires on her? (Ex. When she threatened to dance with every guy at her big singing event.) Because I find it hard to believe Shadow would put up with being treated that way concerning every event with no sense of compromise. (Which, to be fair, Aurora never offered in that comic… I don’t really like her at all in that comic.)
Aurora is a social butterfly and Shadow is not, so in the early part of their relationship that causes some friction. The longer they’re together the more understanding they’ll be of each other, and that’s where the compromise comes in. That’s why when I get asked things like “What would Shadow and Aurora wear to a convention?” I answer with “If they’re going together it would be X, but if it’s just Aurora it would be Y”
Aurora was angry in the beginning of that comic because Shadow only told her minutes before the party that he wasn’t going. They were both in the wrong in that moment. Aurora was wrong to assume that he would go to the party, and Shadow was wrong to not tell her beforehand. They should have discussed it sooner but that didn’t happen. That’s how things go in real life, right? You don’t always get it right.
Also, Aurora’s threat was a bluff. The only boys she asks to dance with her are Ruff and Tumble, and she even tells them that she’ll basically be dancing alone tonight.
I understand why you got frustrated with her in that comic (or maybe even in general) but I try to depict characters true to life. Humans make mistakes, we sometimes act without thinking, and we are so used to the way our own minds work that we don’t always think about others. So I try to work those mistakes in on occasion to make the stories more real.
