Whenever people talk about how they don’t understand how rainwings (mainly talking about glory in the first ark) manage to “pass” as another tribe i find it a bit silly.
In book one, glory says that it’s a good thing that the guardians never studied about rainwings as she camouflages. So I imagine that it’s not regular, commonly known knowledge the extent of rainwings shifting ability if at all.
Also, most dragons, I’m assuming, have never seen a rainwing. as well as the fact that she (glory) is usually in a certain context that helps her blend in. (E.g book 1 in the swamp with clay, an obviously ‘authentic’ mudwing, and that time in the 5th book where she makes herself appear more ‘skywing-y’ when she’s with the rest of the dod in the desert.)
“So what if that icewing has a few missing spikes?, no dragons the same.”
“So what if that skywing has small wings, that Sandwing also looks a little odd”
Of course there’s exceptions like deathbringer being able to tell that glory isn’t an icewing but my reasoning for that is that since he‘s an assassin, he’s trained and supposed to be extra observant. He wouldn’t have made it so far if he wasn’t.
Also considering that in cannon, dragons tend to look pretty similar. Scales, horns, wings, claws and talons. Aside from some outliers like the pantalan tribes and probably seawings and sandwings (and mudwing’s for their chunkier, more squat build) most tribes look pretty similar if you’re not focused on anything specific.
Also hybrids are always a conclusion a dragon could jump too. Maybe clay’s siblings thought glory was a mud/sky. Wouldn’t be too far a reach since they’re allied in the war :)
Anyway, this isn’t aimed at anyone in particular, obviously just thought I could ramble some thought :3
