There’s definitely a difference between gameplay love/hate and character love/hate for me. To use the first example, Zen is fun to play, but narratively I just sort of bounce off of him. And while Moira can be useful & I’m fairly good at her, as a ‘person’ she repels me. In the other way around, the Shimada brothers are interesting to explore in stories, but in game I never willingly play them because I hate their kits.

Wasn’t the fic talk supposed to be on the 22nd? Alas, I shall have to miss it, I’m already booked all day elsewhere on the 25th. I hope it goes well.

Until I started writing them no single hero/character stood out to me in particular as my favourite, I liked several more than the others, but that was with about the same fervor and was frankly more than half the cast. The "skeletal" state of their characters (and the lore) is really what drew me to writing OW fic in the first place. The pieces we get are so incomplete, I want to stitch them together into the beautiful thing I know it could be.  So, I guess in a way, it's actually the sketchy, skeletal, ultimately incomplete nature of the characters that drew me in and made me love them.

I love this too! I think it’s one of my favorite parts of OVerwatch, is the way the world sort of becomes everyone’s when its in their hands. When I read someone’s OVerwatch fic, especially, it feels like a slice of them.

My tendency is to really 'latch on' to whomever the pov character in my current writing is, but I must admit that McCree, Sombra & Mercy insist on showing up often in my headspace. In Sombra's & McCree's cases, it's their hidden layers, the sense of there being so much going on under the surface or behind the scenes. For Mercy, it's the core of iron and anger I sense in her beneath the kindness. But until I started writing fic, I can't say I had a favourite.

Very much in Mercy do I see the idea of “You don’t do things because you believe the world will change. You do them to prove that the world cannot change you.” and I believe that she sticks to that with everything she has in her, that she will do the good and the right thing, and it doesn’t matter if the world continues on its way, because it will NOT BREAK HER. If all she can do is try to put out the flame of the world with the moisture from a kiss, well, she will, and fuck you for trying to tell her otherwise. 

I feel this. Her face is different every time she appears in cinematics or comics, and it drives me mad.

It’s so fucking frustrating not only the lack of continuity but ALSO, the seeming push-me pull-you about Lena being portrayed as butchy or them SUPER femmeing her up. All the early art, including the cinematic trailer, had a pretty butch Tracer who was not overly ~girlied up~

But there’s a pretty striking difference--her lips are made more movie starlet rounded and glossed, her nose is more “button”, they REMOVED HER FRECKLES which annoys the SHIT out of me, they made her face softer and rounder, with bigger, wider eyes, and gave her a brow job. Basically they were like, “How do we make her a cute little girl thing?” 

I changed my mind five times, and then I decided to try and see this gloriousness in person. There is so much cute and/or sparkly stuff here. @.@

My completionist tendencies will probably win, but I understand your quandary (minus the children, anyway). I comfort myself with thinking that SuperS sales figures will keep Stars in the pipe. (I’ve had too many manga indefinitely delayed on me by sagging sales. >.>)

Wow, this is a bit of a darker take on McCree than I'm used to, but I really like it. I hadn't really considered the mechanics of him in Talon, but going back to what's familiar makes sense, and his conflict over this feels raw and real. Also, I fucking love his cats' names, holy shit, I am 100% stealing that for my headcanons of him.

I got a lot of versions of this comment, and, I confess, I read VERY VERY little OW fanfiction, I mostly play with my GI Joes in my corner and have no idea what the fanon is at this point, but I’m still sort of surprised? Do people just not imagine that rural western americans also have rich inner lives filled with emotional complexity? 

I mean, on another tack, I’m a writer, and expanding a character out of the sketches we’re given in OW (and they really are only sketches) is just a thing you do, you know? 

I DON’T KNOW WHY NO ONE IS GIVING MCCREE EMOTIONAL COMPLEXITY BUT NOW I’M LIKE...SPITE DRIVEN INTO WRITING MCCREE.

I mean, morality is a pretty difficult and dodgy subject, when we get down to it, and I’ve always thought of it this way--there are things I CNA do, and things I CAN’T, and what they are from the outside is anther discussion altogether

Tracer and her "get-well" basket filled with shit that won't actually heal you but were (ostensibly) things she either thought he liked or had seen him consume is beautiful and I laughed at the description of them all being "cowboy" things. Although what fuckin "get well" basket has anything healthy in it Idk, so props to Tracer for not giving him a giant basket of chocolate and flowers

Oh man I am SO GLAD I went with McCree! This is great, I love how you're developing his character. He feels like a lonely kind of guy even when he's got a team (who don't seem to necessarily go out of their way to reach out to him the way Tracer did.) He's lonely but he still needs people in his life, or some kind of stability maybe, so he came to work with Gabe-who-isnt-really-Gabe-anymore
