I think he's looked bad for a while. I don't like how he suddenly grew several feet in KH2. It felt jarring.
sora kinda did the same thing of having a sudden growth spurt, i think part of that atleast was some art direction tweaks between 1 and 2
kh3 riku is just really lazy from a character design standpoint
his new keyblade (even if it ends up being plot important) is really really blandly designed and doesnt reflect riku as a character at all compared to way to the dawn which imho is one of the best KB designs in the franchise
and his design in 3 is a joke as well, its just nomura being so petty about versus 13 that he wants to dilute an existing character’s design to make him look like noctis
