On a side note and since I had some free time at work today… If I hear another person say something about America being “born today” or it’s “America’s birthday”- I’m gonna puke. Vomit. Hurl. Ralph. The 4th o’ July is the day  that ‘we’ celebrate the independence of the American colonies from the artist formerly known as the “Kingdom of Great Britain”. There was no symbolic-birth happening on the 4th… at least not “America’s”. And unless you are a small-child or are suffering from a serve brain injury there in no reason you should be boppin’ around with the misconception in your head. It makes you sound like a moron… or a avid walmart shopper. A little history… 1.) On July 2nd the Committee of Five legally approve and voted for independence. Incidentally, John Adams and others assumed that the day Americans would celebrate their independence from the Brits would be on the 2nd. 2.) The Declaration of Independence, an explanation of the decision, was penned (largely) by Tom Jefferson and was slightly revised and unanimously adopted by  Congress on July 4th. 3.) This document was finally signed by the whole of Congress on August 2nd, 1776. 4.) Most of the rest of the world, particularly The British Crown, didn’t recognize American independence until the Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3rd, 1783. So, to recap! The official legal move for separation from Britain was “busted” (as Young MC might say) on July 2nd. The decision became fully legit in Congress on August 2nd, 1776. On September 3rd, 1783  The United States of America formally came out of the closet and the whole of the planet’s acknowledged major-power-structures said “Hey, what’s up”. Then in 1830 Andy Jackson, and other white guys, decided to make the forced-assimilation, displacement, and systematic-removal of the original residents of this chunk of land official and grab more land for the young nation in the process. Which famously gave raise to the film Dances with Wolves and the song “Go West” by The Village People. The end.
