Welcome to Fountain House!
Hi everyone and welcome to my 6th semester GNH internship!
My internship is in Fountain House located in Østerbro, Copenhagen. Fountain house is a rehabilitation offer for mentally vulnerable individuals. Fountain House incorporate membership, voluntarism and a high degree of member participation as key components in its ideological approach to recovery – the so called clubhouse-model. It is a part of the Copenhagen social psychiatry, but a private concept adopted from USA.
Fountain House is divided into units all serving the ‘house’ fellowship. There is an office, a kitchen, editing, youth house, and a book support. All of the units are run by members and employees and the practical tasks are distributed during morning meetings. Â
The members have a wide spread of psychological problems ranging from mild social anxiety to more serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia, borderline etc. All the members are seeking a way to live a life without illness but each must find their individual path to recovery.
