#1856: one of the features that characterises Clovis points is the fluted base. "fluted" means there's a flake cut out of it, so it's kinda rounded to a sharp edge at the base (the basal edge). in the case of Clovis points, this can happen on both sides (the front or back). it's probably easiest if you look at this image.
Clovis points are also lanceolate which means that it looks like a tip of a lance. you also use that word to describe like, leaves and things - it's really nothing to do with lances (which often have the head forged into the shaft). lanceolate points are much longer than they are wide, and the widest point is usually far down towards the base. most notably, there's no notches in the base or anything like that that would give you a good grip to attach a rope or something.
