#1852: the most important way to distinguish between ancient cultures is with their points. by which i mean, the carved toolheads that would've been used on things like spears. a lot of cultures are named after the place where their points were found - the Clovis culture for example after a site near the town of Clovis in New Mexico.
in Florida, you've also got Page-Ladson points, Simpson points, Suwanee points and Bolen points, all of which have their own shape and construction. as far as i can tell, these terms are used sort of equivalently to refer to the groups of peoples that made them.
lots of these points are related, and recurring features come and go (eg you'll have a period of time where there's usually a notch in the side of the points produced during that period). a lot of speculation based on this fills in the gaps based on the time: eg the Magellan points found in South America are thought to be related to the Clovis points found in North America. for comparison, see how different points can be - most of these in this image are from different cultures found in and around Florida.
