We should all be paying attention to US politicians tryin to censor the internet. (The we referring to those also outside the US.)
I think itās really important to understand what is being said in this video especially for people who live outside of the US and think that they wonāt be affected by the censorship laws that are trying to be passed. A lot of websites, especially sites like AO3 and Tumblr and who knows are based in the US so that means what the sites are allowed to post will be completely restricted. And as much as we like to donate to AO3 I donāt believe that will save them if the censorship laws are passed. Also, I say laws because there is more than one that they are trying to push through.

SESTA/āFOSTA applies liability to online platforms seen to be promoting prostitution, endangers the safety of sex workers & limits freedom o
this fosta shit is making me fosta a lot of hatred for the old dusty ass skeletons running this shit
FOSTA-SESTA was the start of this
The D.C. judges expressed skepticism about the constitutionality of language in a law that makes it a crime to operate a computer service with the intent to promote prostitution.
so the law that was responsable for porn being removed on tumblr (FOSTA-SESTA)Ā looks like its gonna get overturned as the courts found it violates the first amedment more speficically the part that saysĀ āuse of computers and internetā part of it. could be big!

Please can people stop spreading that Tumblr banned porn because of FOSTA-SESTA.
If that was true, Reddit, Twitter, and many porn specific sites would have been targets too.
FOSTA-SESTA targets advertising in person sex work, not posting your nudes online. It doesn't even target advertising pornāsomething allowed on plenty of other apps.
Tumblr banned porn because they were asked to deal with the CSAM but were incapable of doing that (or unwilling to), so they banned nudes and porn to make it look like they had made an effort.
But they didn't even properly commit to that, resulting in unflagged porn appearing in tags, something that shouldn't be happening on a site that allows under 18s.
Tumblr's incompetence is all their own fault.
FOSTA-SESTA is bad for other reasons, like making it harder for FSSWers to screen clients.
I wonder what percentage of adults online understand why some sites like tumblr are so heavily censored and why all sites with user contributions are heading in that āfamily friendlyā direction. I still see jokes about OF banning porn like ādid they forget what their user base is?ā and itās like⦠obviously no. They own a multi billion dollar company theyāre not all oblivious idiots. Puritanical anti porn lobbyists are pumping a ridiculous amount of time and resources into fanning the flames of a moral panic while saying all they want to do is āprotect the children.ā Their real goal is to wipe away all porn from the internet. Thatās likely impossible, but as weāve seen, they set their sights on a target and donāt stop until the ToS has changed. Until we repeal FOSTA/SESTA, we will continue to have an increasingly censored internet, no children (real or imaginary) will be saved, and social media companies will continue to weigh their profits against their legal liability and choose the option that seems least destructive for themselves.
