“Will it be….like you? A werewolf?”
It was leaning towards midnight, and even though she had her back pressed against Derek’s back and couldn’t see his face, she knew he was awake. He was quiet for a while, fingers gently rubbing at her swollen stomach.
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
“You’re scared.”
“I’m not.”
“I can hear your heartbeat.”
For the millionth time in their marriage, she swore she hated his hearing. “Not scared. Worried.” She slide her hand over top of his, closing her eyes to lean back into his embrace. His lips lingering close to her ears because he knew she had always liked that.
“It’s our-” A yawn slipped past her lips, “first kid. I’m allowed to be worried.” Especially if I have to worry about it clawing it’s way out.
“Go to sleep Paige.” “I’m not tired.” She was fighting to keep her eyes open, but she wouldn’t admit that to him. So when he nuzzled closer, stubble rubbing against the crook in her neck, she nearly missed his soft “I love you.”
“Love you-” and then her eyes dozed off and her head fell back.
