IX - BETTER WATCH HOW YOU THINK OUT LOUD, IF IT'S 'BOUT ME THOUGH đ
Sitting relaxed Rio watches the sun cast golden hues on you as it prepares to set. The ocean sprays along the boat as dolphins lead the charge ahead of the boat ushering you back to the resort. The day had been incredible. The two of you had shared several moments of firsts. Your connection could not be denied. It was way too strong so much so that you felt like you were in sync. Turning around you find Rio watching as you hold over the edge of the boat to watch the dolphins. Your eyes find each other and he nods giving you an encouraging smile. He admired how much you enjoyed every bit of effort he put into the trip. It makes him want to do even more to keep a smile on your face. He made a mental note to tip the member of the hotel staff well for recommending the set of excursions that he had. Rio had asked what were the bestsellers for couples and women and then booked accordingly. The day started ziplining which was rough considering the night's festivities but after a nap during the ride to swim with dolphins you were ready for the day. Heâd been around you long enough to detect any personality defects, and found none. Building a business meant great people management skills. He couldn't think of any sensible reason for Jamesâ cheating. Instead, he understood why James was being such an asshole about letting you go. Smiling Rio takes a video of you looking at the dolphins happily. Wearing a cheeky bikini bottom and short sarong, the video would only be for him but he would keep the memory nonetheless.Â
âRio, come see!â you call him over. He obliges despite not giving a single fuck about the dolphins, fish and everything else exciting you at the moment. He smiles mostly at your excitement. âItâs so gorgeous, thank you for thisâ you smile looking up at him.
âYouâre welcomeâ Rio nods.
You sit enjoying the sunset as the boat takes a scenic way to the doc by the resort. Rio settles feeling you next to him, his mind is on what will happen when you return home. There were a couple of properties he was managing, he would schedule some showings and do his best to respect your need for space if that's what you needed. Only heâd already started shifting his schedule to be around most nights, he would have to find someone to keep eyes on James too just in case the entitled fuck decided to do anything sneaky.Â
âDid you have fun?â you ask, interrupting Rio's thoughts. He smiles nodding, he did but not for the same reasons as you.
Rio nods, âI enjoyed myself.â
âI don't think you didâ You respond both amused and appreciative that heâd taken the time to make today all about you and your enjoyment.
âI enjoyed seeing you enjoy yourself. I like making money and taking care of my people.â Rio says, a simple man. Looking him over you realise heâd revealed no vices during the entire trip. He didnât drink too much and there were no frequent smoke breaks. His eyes never lingered on the assortment of scantily clad women scattered around the resort. No flirting, or whispering on the phone and he seemed too proud to lie. Heâd also managed to make you feel considered every step of the way.Â
âWell I had an incredible time, Iâm really really really happy you invited me out here and made it so special.â you smile smothering him with quick kisses in your giddiness.
âI know,â Rio nods, pecking your forehead.
Getting off the boat you walk hand in hand with him through the resort and towards your room. You pass by a group of his family eating and the smirk on Nickâs face is unsettling. Marisol looks apologetic but itâs Tiaâs eyes that catch yours. She stands coming over and pulling both you and Rio away.
âRio, can I talk to Y/N quickly?â she asks.
âNoâ Rio interjects holding your hand tighter. âWhat is it?â He asks.
âCome here sweetieâ Marisol says standing and reaching for you only for Rio to grab your wrist.
âShe ainât going nowhere, what the fuck is up?â Rio snaps getting upset.
âShe's marriedâ Nick mocks glaring at Rio. Everyone tenses but Rio who relaxes much to everyone's shock.
âSee, I told you there was more to the story!â Marisol says to Nick reading Rioâs body language and Tia rolls her neck at Nick with folded arms.
âWhat happened?â you ask.
âJames, whoever the fuck that is messaged all of us.â Tia signs and Rio loosens his grip.
âWhat did it say?â you ask as your anger surges. She hands you her phone allowing you to read it.
Hello Tia,
I regret to inform you that I have discovered an ongoing affair between your cousin and my wife. This situation has caused immense pain and distress to our family. I am reaching out to you in hopes that you can address this matter with your cousin directly. It is crucial that this affair ends immediately for the well-being of all parties involved. My wife and I have a loving relationship, and this indiscretion is merely a result of her current state of boredom and emotional instability. Continuing this affair will only lead to more hurt and damage. I implore you to intervene and help put an end to this destructive behaviour. Your cousin risks significant emotional harm if this continues. Please, for the sake of both our families, help bring this to an end.
Looking up from the phone embarrassed isnât the word. You flush overheating as you become nauseated. Your eyes water looking at the lies.
âHe sent this to all of you?â Rio asks, having read the message too.
âEveryone tagged me on my story last night, got oneâ Tia explains.
âChristopherâ Marisol interjects as Rioâs anger reaches a ten.
âYou okay?â Rio asks, taking your chin. Blinking you close your eyes and tears run down. âHey, heâs lying don't cryâ Rio says trying to calm you down.
âI need some time aloneâ you swallow turning away from the crowd as the walls close in around you. Your hands and face are hot. Emotionally unstable?! You feel it now as you head to the room feeling crazy. Heading into the room you try to regulate your breathing and manage to dial James number from memory. It goes to voicemail but youre so angry you call five more times until he picks up.
âWho is this?âJamesâ voice says grating your nerves.
âYou piece of shit!â you shout.
âMexico really!?â he shouts back. âAnd youre so fucking messy youre there with another man, and you have the audacity to post him and be kissing him at the airport while being married-â
âYou're so beyond unbelievable JAMES!â You scream. âYOUâRE FUCKING A BIMBO FOR MONTHS AND I DONâT CALL HER, I DONâE MESSAGE HER I LEAVE YOU TO ALONE! YET YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE THE DECENCY TO DIVORCE ME AND LET ME BE IN PEACE. YOU ALWAYS TOLD ME KEEP PEOPLE OUT OF OUR RELATIONSHIP AND YOU MESSAGE HIS FAMILY WITH BULLSHIT ABOUT US BEING IN LOVE. I WAS EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE WHEN I SAID I DO AT THAT ALTER, IâVE BEEN EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE OUR ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP TO LET YOU TREAT ME LIKE AN AFTERTHOUGHT AND A PERSONAL ASSISTANT BUT IâM DONE WITH THAT. IâM DONE WITH YOU! DONâT CALL ME OR MY MOTHER OR ANY OF THE PEOPLE I ASSOCIATE WITH.â
âCalm downâ he responds, gaslighting you further. You nearly blow a gasket. There's a knock at the door and you swallow trying to remain calm as you head to the door. Marisolâs sympathetic expression awaits outside the door. Overwhelmed, you step back to let her in. If you could disappear you would.Â
âBaby, where are you? Iâll book a flight and be there as soon as you need me to beâ James continues driving you crazy.
âJames, I don't want you and after what you did today I never want to see you again, donât call me, don't write me, don't call my mom, my friends or my family!â you snap.
âThen stop posting! If you wouldn't have posted for everyone to see I wouldn't have had to intervene you're taking this too far. This guy whoever he is doesn't mean well, you're vulnerable he's taking advantageâ Jamesâ words are just more manipulation.
âSpeak for yourselfâ you scoff. âIâve never done anything to deserve what you did and what youâve done to me todayâ you snap.
âIâm not sorry, at least it made you call,â he says, making your ears ring. Itâs Marisol that hangs up the phone on your behalf. You take deep breaths as her eyes hold yours. She looks horrified.
âIâm sorry Iâm ruining your wedding tripâ You apologise, feeling horrible.
âThe fact that you're even apologising after that tells me everything I need to knowâ she swallows, shaking her head at James' abounding audacity. âIâm sorry about Nick, he thinks you're too good for Rio and it would be a funny aha moment if you were playing him. It was just a shocking message you knowâ she apologises.
âMarisol, thereâd be no apologies if it weren't for my drama on your wedding vacation.â You apologise.
âGirl, thereâs always drama. I don't care about a party more than I care about a human being. James will pay for this mess I promise you that. Nick owes us big time for that stunt back there, I can imagine your divorce hearing will be expedited and after those messages. Weâll explore an injunction for both a gag and restraining order. Besides, his actions will do wonders for pain and suffering - extra alimony. We can talk and I can report on emotional abuse.â Marisol says in full therapist, problem solver mode.
âReally?â you can't contain your surprise.
âReally sweetie, now that you're okay Iâve got to make sure Rio doesnât kill the guy or Nick firstâ she says.
âPlease, James isn't worth it the dramaâ you mutter.
âI will try, just decompress and relax unless you want me to call him here?â Marisol asks.
âItâs alright, just please apologise to everyone for meâ you repeat and she smiles.
âFuck that asshole Jamesâ She says and theres a knock on the door. You open it and Tia walks in with a tray of treats. Marisol leaves and Tia stays sitting with you in the cozy living room. Itâs the venting session youâve missed out on. You video call your mother too and the three of you talk everything out. It ends letting you feel lighter. You order room service and eat with Tia once your mom ends the call. You tell her about your day trying your hardest not to let James ruin all of Rioâs planning. Itâs how he finds you when he comes in smelling like weed. His energy is tense as he nods heading in the bathroom.
âYou think heâs mad at me?â you ask Tia as she checks her phone.
âNopeâ she smiles showing you a video of you and the dolphins today. Thereâs no caption, only the business is tagged as well as you. You smile too. âYour James might be used to winning, but nobody beats Rioâ she says getting up.
âItâs dark Tia, let me walk you back to your villaâ Rio says emerging from the bathroom.
âI was leaving, asshole, you donât have to be like that and rush me outâ she stands fanning him off.
âKeep playing with me and Iâll tell Granny what you be doing with her zucchini loafâ Rio warns. Tia deadpans pretending to zip her lips.
âY/N say you have an allergy. Itâs dis-gus-ting!â Tia warns, making you laugh.
âCan I come with you guys?â you ask.
âYou don't need permission, you're grownâ Tia smiles, linking arms in yours. The walk to Tiaâs side of the resort is about ten minutes and full of her colourful personality. Once sheâs settled you take Rioâs hand he hasnât said much to you since James stunt. He takes your hands and kisses them before pulling you in.
âDonât apologiseâ he says before you can.
âI made you look bad to your familyâ you say.
âNah, you made Nick look terrible. Everyone sat there ripping him a new one. I donât owe them explanations but I told them about James and itâs settledâ Rio says and you smile feeling overwhelmed by his support.
âIâm happy he cheated. If he didnt I wouldnt be here with you. Today was amazing and youâve been a godsend through all of this. I know you tell me not to thank you but I really appreciate everythingâ your words are from the heart.
âYou deserve it, people always get what they deserve. James will too for making you cryâ he says and you nod trusting him with a smile. Ready for war you post more pictures from today to fan the flames. Rioâs family members along with yours rally in the comments hyping you up. You ignore any DMâs from James' family and smile when you see Tia addressing the chaos in your comments, airing out the truth to James. You watch attentively, refreshing until the comments from disgruntled family members of Jamesâ start disappearing and make a mental note to take Tia to dinner.
Rio sits on the couch watching it too from his personal phone getting more and more pissed. Having had it with showing restraint he calls his people, as much as he wants to personally make James pay thereâs no way to from here. He gets a two for one special on James taking both of his women out of the picture. His instructions are as follows. Make Japan an offer she wonât refuse to leave town and end communication with James. Scare her real bad. Itâs the least of what she deserves for being complicit in your harassment. It has to be done tonight. Rio wants absolutely nothing to allow James to feel safe or content in his life. No woman to slide into, no one to listen to him, no one to call. James couldnât play with you, not anymore. His mental health accusation would ultimately come back to bite him in the ass when Rio was through. Rioâs second set of instructions were for the cheating bastard James himself. He knew James would be at a bar tonight. He was the type. First Rioâs boys would be friendly while James drank. After James started talking too much theyâd start to taunt him quietly. With the liquor in his system it wouldn't be long until a fight started. Only James wouldn't win this one getting the brakes beat out of him. Heâd tried restraint but it was clear now more than ever that James needed to be broken and put out of commission. Nothing else would stop him from messing with you.
Pausing from the instruction Rio ponders if thereâs anything else. Hearing the bedroom door open he ends the call after giving his people the green light.
âYou alright?â he asks, eyeing the third of your lingerie sets. He makes a mental note to check the tags and buy out the store. When you sit in his lap instead of the free seat beside him he relaxes instantly.
âYeah, you?â you ask him as he adjusts you for his own comfort.
âBetter nowâ he nods.
âIâm exhausted from today baby, can you come to bed so we can sleep?â you ask him and he sees it in your eyes. He had a romantic dinner planned to commemorate the last night. Heâd planned to ask you to be his properly, officially to clear any confusion but of course James fucked that up.
âMy ego isn't so fragile you gotta tip toe around being tired mama.â Rio smiles reading between the lines. Though his appetite for you felt insatiable he didnât view you as his personal sex-slave regardless of any jokes heâd made in the past.
âItâs not about your ego Rio, I know what itâs like to be unappreciated and I don't want to be that personâ you yawn. Rio leads the both of you to the bedroom. Pulling the sheets back he watches you get under the covers first before settling in himself. You fall asleep in no time but Rioâs slower to go. He watches you sleep, each breath quells his anger until he drifts off too knowing ainât shit sweet or peaceful for James tonight.
Author's note: Whew, chile this one was a rollercoaster. I feel like thats how it goes sometimes, unfortunately. Can we believe the ish James pulled? Like the audacity of him to send that mass message. At least Rio has some real ones in his family. Let me know what your favourite part was?

X - GOT A COUPLE THAT'S OUTSIDE, THEY KILL ABOUT ME THOUGH đȘŠ
The dread of returning home to a less than ideal reality is coursing through your veins. Itâs so overwhelming you can feel something is coming in your bones. The fight to maintain your centre is active. You haven't practised yoga in more than a week and you have not maintained your meditation rituals. A hand splays over your thigh offering comfort and affection along with a kiss on the top of your head as you rest your head on his chest. You can't help but wonder how he knows that right now you're in need of affection as your mind drifts. The plane starts its descent and you place your hand over Rioâs. You wish you were happier, especially after all the effort heâd put into your excursions the day prior but it feels like that ship has sailed with those bullshit messages. Closing your eyes you sigh deeply regretting the grace youâd given him. You regret not going postal, not showing up to his job, not kicking and screaming, not telling his mother, bleaching his clothes, the whole nine yards. Clearly, he has no intentions of sparing you or maintaining your reputation. Swallowing you decide the gloves are all the way off. Cheating back just didn't seem to cut it. Youâd have to hop down to the depths to meet him at his level. You sit stewing without knowing Rio has already taken care of it. Heâd gotten the message confirmation before youâd left the villa this morning. It was part of the reason why he found himself capable of smiling. As soon as the plane landed he knew there would be more details. He needed James down and incapable of bothering you for at least the next month. From here on out heâd let you decide the next courses of action - unless James gets out of pocket again. You and Rio leave the airport side by side. His assertive energy is quite the thing to experience in person. People just seem to give him respect. The airport staff nod at him in acknowledgement. People come over to help him when he needs help and he delegates efficiently finding an attendant to get your bags off the baggage carousel paying them handsomely to lift the bags and push the cart. He doesn't break a sweat keeping you close. You watch him in awe as he moves with precision and purpose; you end up at a part of the airport you donât recall ever coming across as your bags are transferred to a new attendant.
âHey man, table for twoâ Rio says and your eyes bulge in horror when you realise where you are. It's a five star restaurant.
âRio, Iâm in loungewearâ you whisper.
âLet me find out you're trying to impress someone elseâ he comments and you shake your head. âYou look beautifulâ he smiles as we are seated in a private area. Everyone else is well dressed.
âThank you, it's just âŠâ
âMama, me being able to get my girl in a restaurant I donât own in her pyjamas is boss shitâ Rio says and you feel your cheeks burn.
âHa, Ha! You've seen my pjâs, this is loungewearâ you correct.
âWhatever you sayâ he shrugs and you look away laughing as a server comes over pouring you a delicious smelling tea.Â
âThe boss will be right out, if you need any help with the menus let me know. Weâre happy to make any substitutions you may require. If you need anything click the button on the table and I'll be right outâ the man explains. Overwhelmed you hand Rio your menu.
âPlease order what you think Iâll likeâ you tell him and he smiles proceeding to do just that on your behalf. The server smiles and disappears. Itâs clear he has great taste and only likes the best of the best, everywhere he goes heâs treated with the utmost consideration.
âI had a dinner planned for us last nightâ he confesses. Itâs clear Rio is upset about having to pivot because of James. Your first instinct is an apology but you reconsider it knowing Rio doesn't expect one.Â
âI wish things happened differently,â you confess. âI know it would have been gorgeousâ you smile and he nods.
âIt was, and I was going to ask you to be my girl because I figure being clear is the best thing for both of us. I know youâve got a lot going on and I know youâre trying to be happy but itâs okay if youâre not. Fuck shame and James the joke. Soso said I need to be more sensitiveâ he says.
âSoso?â
âMarisolâ he corrects and you smile at his soft side and Marisolâs consideration of you. âAnyway, Iâm not ashamed of shit we got going on or what youâre dealing with. I want you to be my girl. I enjoy our time together and Iâm not running from shitâ he shrugs.
âI had no idea they even made men like youâ you remark out loud, thankful for him. Rio smirks, raising a brow.
âLike what?â he asks and you reach across the table to take his chin.
âNo wordsâ you smile, giving him a quick peck. âOf course Iâll be yours.â You respond sitting back down. Rio smiles.
âGoodâ he nods and the waiter brings out a delicious plate of food you absolutely love. Rio shares some of his with your and you with him. Before dinner is over he leaves to speak with the owner. You relax in your seat and check your phone to see a message thread with Tia already making plans for the two of you to go shopping. Itâs how Rio finds you and you leave the restaurant and end up at the valet where his car is waiting already loaded with your luggage. You arrive at his place forty-five minutes later. Itâs so clean it looks staged.
âI didn't forget about you getting your own placeâ he comments, watching you hesitate. Shacking up had been against your constitution since before you and James had gotten serious. James, you shake your head knowing you're gonna have to confront him over what he did. Youâre gonna have to move your things out.
âIâm in no rush. Iâm gonna call my mom and tell her we got in okayâ you tell Rio.
âBet, I have a meeting across town in two hours. Iâm going to get ready and head out.â he says leaving you to it.
Settling into the extra deep cushions you look around at the pristine place that feels slightly sterile. It's the level of perfection that doesn't make it feel lived in. You call your mom and she picks up on the third ring.
âHey Ma, we landed safely.â you tell her.
âGood baby girlâ she says but her voice sounds off.
âWhatâs wrong?â you ask.
âJust got a call from Jamesâ mother.â she says and your eyes close as the irritation mounts. That gag order might be necessary after all.
âYayâ you mutter sarcastically.
âAre you sitting down?â Ma asks and your eyes open as you sit forward.
âYes?â you ask concerned.
âApparently James was in a fight last night. It went badly for him and heâs in the hospital suffering pretty badly if sheâs not exaggerating. They spent the night and all morning calling you until James was lucid enough to have them call his mother. She's furious and wouldnât let me get a word in.â Your mom explains rocking your world.
âSheâs blaming me isn't she?â You ask and your mothers silence is telling. âWhy doesn't he call his girlfriend?â you question your mother.
âHe wants you and sheâs her son's advocate in light of your absence let her tell itâ your mom explains. Sighing deeply you look at the ceiling.
âWhat was he thinking? Starting a fight?â you question.
Your mom sighs âI donât knowâŠâ
âWhat do you think I should do?â you ask in need of guidance.
âDo what feels rightâ she says, being no help. Sexual healing with RIo is what feels right. But you leave your mom out of that truth sighing deeply. You resent James more and more every waking moment it seems.
âI guess Iâll goâ you say finally. âGuess Iâll take this time to move my things out tooâ
âIâm coming down, iâll get a hotel and we can sort it out togetherâ she says.
âThanks momâ you sigh in relief.
âNo problem my love, let me get things sorted and Iâll call you later. Call me if you need anythingâ she offers.
âI will love you mommy, sorry youâve become my secretaryâ you tell her.
âNo problem, I've been cleaning up your shit since you were in diapers. Itâs what I signed up forâ she jokes, making you laugh.
âHopefully, you get a break again really soonâ you smile.
âOnly a tiny one, I want some grandbabies,â she says.
âMa!â you laugh.Â
âAfter the divorce is finalized of course, and youâre in a happy healthy marriageâ she specifies.
âThe shitty fumes must be getting to you. Light a candle, open a window, get some fresh air and Iâll call you laterâ you tease joking with her.
âLove you, byeâ she says hanging up and you do too. Rio emerges dressed in his signature all black and you feel terrible for throwing yet another complicated issue his way.
âWhat is it?â he asks, sitting down beside you.
âI need a keyâ you tell him.
âMy housekeeper got one cut,â he says. âWhere are you headed?â he asks.
âTo the hospital James got into something. Iâm his emergency contact, heâs in bad shape and asking for me, itâs this whole thingâ you explain not wanting to be in this situation.
âI don't think he deserves to see you,â Rio says angrily.
âIâm not sure heâs seeing much of anything with how bad it seems he was beat up.â you tell Rio.
âI don't think you should go after the shit heâs pulledâ Rio stands his ground.
âI know, Iâm going to go though. I can't keep running from my problems. If I go, he and his mom can say whatever. I can remove myself from all necessary non-legal documents for the time being and then I can tell her I'm going to move out my things and to stop calling my mom. Moving forward all communications will be handled through email until I retain legal counselâ you explain and Rio finds himself smiling.
âBoss shitâ he comments.
You snicker. âI have a good teacherâ
âWho? Iâm not doing all that talkingâ Rio asserts.
âTake my car and call me if anything you don't like happensâ Rio offers.
âYou have a meeting. Iâll waitâ You respond not wanting to be a distraction.
âBaby, Iâm the boss, there's no meeting without me,â Rio says and you laugh, shaking your head at him. Everything about him is so sexy to you. There's no apology for owning who he is and you pinch his cheek.
âI love that about youâ you smile honestly and in a second you clam up. The L word. But Rio doesnt clam up, itâs music to his ears.Â
âDonât start or weâll be here all day if I have to list the things I love about youâ he says, giving you a kiss as he stands with his heart racing like a kid. His smile is reassuring, affirming you're alright.
âMaybe some other time thenâ you recover and he nods, coming back with car keys and a house key for you.
âGo handle your business mamaâ Rio smirks, willing to let you leap. Your lungs fill with air and you nod knowing heâs there to catch you.
You feel yourself tugging at the hems of your long sleeves as you walk into the eerie hospital environment. The stark whites and fluorescent lighting clash with the depth of Rioâs home decor. No longer in his presence you don't feel as strong or as sure footed. If James has done anything over the past month, it's been turning your life upside down. After years of keeping things close to the chest, what he pulled last night was the very last thing you ever thought he would do. You guess karma is funny that way because itâs him and not you that acted the ass only to be beat up so bad hospitalisation is required. Following the directions from the information desk you find yourself in a unit that smells absolutely disgusting. You hold your breath until you grab a mask from the wall only to freeze once it's on. Jamesâ mother Gladys watches you with folded arms. His father James Senior sits outside the room with his head down instead of pointed at you.
âSomeone call my wife!â you hear James shout from inside one of the rooms. His voice is strained and the pain in it is unmistakable.
âGet your ass in there!â His mother screams near tears.
âGladysâ Senior hisses, heâs the king of time and place. Years of trying to please his family nearly makes you rush into the room with your head down, but the time of putting James your needs ahead of everyone else's is done.
âGladys Iâd like to speak to youâ you swallow standing your ground.
âWe can talk after you go in and tend to your husband.â Her tone is sharp but it no longer cuts.
âIf you don't want to talk now I can leave and I won't be coming backâ you swallow standing firm.
âY/N, heâs in pain, one of his eyes is swollen shut and his neck is sprained from how hard he was hit. His breathing is impeded by a few cracked ribs according to x-rays and heâs got a fractured ankle.â Senior says. Itâs a surprise, you've never heard of someone so severely impacted from a fight. All that muscle and it turns out heâs made of glass.
âHow many people fought him?â you ask.
âTwoâ Senior responds and you swallow. âHe wants to see you, that's all he wants. I know you two are having a rough patch-â
âHeâs been cheating on me for six months. Please donât deny it. I saw the photographs and messages between them. She knew and would talk about me like trash. James didn't defend me. Itâs the truth and if he thinks I'm so crazy to make things up then that's another reason we should be divorced.â You tell his father frankly.
âHeâs a successful man and you want for nothing, give a little, have a heartâ His mother says, shaming women everywhere. As painful as it is, you're grateful that James and his family are in the past now.
âHeâs been harassing me for the past week and a half. I had to change my number. The only reason I left is because he nearly put hands on me. Dragged me out of the car when I tried to leave him. A cop broke it up. Itâs documented if you don't believe me. Heâs been harassing my mother too and cyberstalking me. Heâs sending horrible messages to the people I spend time with telling them Iâm having an affair, that Iâm crying out for attention and mentally unstable.â You vent and while Gladys looks like she doesnât believe it, Senior seems less reluctant to accept your truth.
âHe shouldnât get physical,â Senior says, drawing the line in the sand somewhere. Itâs a decent start toward progress.
âOr harass and stalk meâ you add.
âHeâs fighting for you Y/N, out of everyone heâs been calling for you non stop. Heâs made a mistake but he loves you and I know you love him. You've been married for years, don't let a lapse in judgement or another woman take that from you. He probably let the world or his colleagues get in his head.â Senior says with excellent spin. Maybe two months ago it would have worked. Maybe if heâd ended things without the pressure of your awareness. Maybe if heâd treated you better or reacted differently but not now, not after heâs done so much to hurt you.
âShe can have him because if this is how he loves - I don't want itâ You swallow pushing the door open. Looking at James sympathy swells in your core. Half of his face is so swollen heâs nearly unrecognisable. He can barely handle the flu so you know this is hell for him.
âBabyâ he smiles, erasing every drop of empathy in you.
âNo baby, Y/Nâ You correct sitting in the chair and he smiles while shaking his head.
âWhat are you playing at? What took you so long?â He asks, trying a smile, it's hard to tell with the swelling.
âJames pretending to have amnesia is beneath even you. Donât make this worse than it needs to be with the pet names. Iâve had enough Jekyll and Hyde from you to last a lifetimeâ you comment with thinning patience. Jamesâ eyes hold yours for a long while before he relents.
âIâm not gonna stop fighting for usâ is what he says first.
âYes you are, Iâm gonna go to the house this week and get my things and you're going to stop contacting me and anyone I associate with.â you explain.
âYou're my wife Y/Nâ he snaps.
âCall Japan, get down on one knee for her when you can manage itâ You comment and the hint of cruelty in your disregard for his current predicament is not lost on James.
âSo you can be with a club owner? I mean if youâre pissed with me for cheating what do you think heâs gonna do?â James deflects.
âNo one I associate with is your business. James, why don't you understand that Iâm trying to be civil when what I should do is crash out after the shit you pulled yesterday. That message was abhorrent and grounds for me to file for a restraining order which I may have to still since you're committed to thinking this divorce is a jokeâ you snap.
âIt is, you can't afford to leave meâ he threatens.
âNo James, you can't afford to lose me but itâs too late. I hope you treat the next woman better, if you get lucky enough.â You stand.
âYou won't get anything good in the divorce we donât have kids!â He says playing his last card.
âThank God, co-parenting with an asshole like you would be a life sentenceâ you comment.
âFuck youâ he sneers and the machine heâs attached to starts beeping.
âHave fun pissing into a cupâ You shoot back as his mother rushes in.
â----
Later that night
Sitting in the dimly lit room Rio can't recall the last time someone had him this out of character. But James was new to the city after all. How could he know who he was dealing with in all his arrogance. It was his arrogance that made this all easier for Rio. Getting him handled was just a phone call. Sitting he looks ahead at the imbecile that was stupid enough to let you slip through his fingers. Up close and personal with James it was clear the man couldn't differentiate between an asset or liability. He had a wife that was happy to please him, out of the way, good cook with great pussy and a heart of gold. Heâd traded into a clear cut VVS diamond for one of those huge lab grown stones. Heâd an heirloom for aesthetics, gold for fools gold, and now he was grasping at straws. Being fed pain killers intravenously to quell the beating that was the result of him acting out. Looking down at his gloved hand Rio looks to the gold gun, it always did the trick. Got people where he wanted them quickly. Got their undivided attention and guided them to compliance. Sitting forward he butts the hospital bed arm rails with his gun twice before sitting back in the seat. James only stirs sleepily, rapping twice more, Rio watches as the man stirs looking around only to go from sleepy to scared. Rio watches as James sits up only to wince and hiss. His hands reach for the button to call the nurse but Rio has already switched it off. It takes James a moment to realise help isn't coming only for panic to fill his eyes at the sight of the gun laying on his lap.
âI - I - Iâ James begins but the first two tries are hoarse. He swallows before continuing. âIIIII, I didn't mean whatever I said or did, I was wastedâ he manages. Displeased with his skills of deduction Rio says nothing as he watches him fight to sit up in disgust.
âYou have two choices,â Rio says finally. âOption One: You refuse option two and I pay one of these underpaid and overworked nurses to inject something to make your life miserable into this bag. More miserable than you are already.â Rio swallows. âTwo, you leave Y/N alone and sign the divorce papersâ
âHow the fuck do you know my wif-â Rio is quick and presses the iron against Jameâs skull.Â
âKeep talking crazyâ Rio smiles, pulling the gun back to screw on a silencer. Once it's fastened he returns his attention back to James. âWhat were you saying?â Rio asks with his head tilted, wishing James would give him one more reason. Instead of a response the coward swallows. Rio smirks, returning to his seat placing the gun on the tray beside him and giving James his attention once again.
âI mean I get it. I dont get why you cheated but I get you fighting for her. I mean âŠâ Rio nods to himself. âItâs the way she looks at me when she hasn't seen me for a bitâ Rio starts chipping away at James' resolve. âThe way she calls when she needs something, her little walk, hell I don't even care about her shit crowding the counters in the bathroomâ Rio taunts watching Jamesâ patience wear down.
âSo youâre her reboundâ James grits.
âRebound is better than the guy who fumbled her. Rebound has her in bed begging for more almost every night.â Rio continues.
âEnoughâ Jameâs grits.
âI mean I guess you know how good her pussy is, fan-fucking-tastic. Iâll probably suck her dry when I get home and then give her a sonâ Rio says, hitting the right nerve.
âFuck you!â James snarks, making Rio smile.
âShe probably ainât post these to spare your ass but since youre a nosy fuck take a lookâ Rio says getting his phone to a few of the videoâs theyâd taken on the trip. James closes his eyes at the sight of Rio grabbing your boob while in a bikini in the water together before you kiss. âAww, what's wrong? Itâs no fun when I have the gun?â
âIâll sign the fucking papersâ James grits.
âAy man, she was always gonna get the divorce whether you were here on earth or in hellâ Rio mutters keeping James aware of the existing power dynamic. âMatter of fact, you're gonna send everyone you sent the last bullshit message this one and post it to your storyâ :
Hello,
Iâm writing with a heavy heart to clarify my previous message regarding the affair between your cousin and Y/N. I realize now how misguided and hurtful my words were, driven by my own insecurities and shame.
The painful truth is that I am the one who had an affair for six long months with someone named @JapanJacobs. In my selfishness, I completely neglected my role as a husband and failed to be the partner Y/N deserved. I canât express how deeply sorry I am for the emotional turmoil Iâve caused her.
I must admit that I also became aggressive with her during our struggles, which only pushed her further away. When she finally asked for a divorce, it sent me spiralling into a manic state that I couldnât control. I was lost and scared, and I lashed out in my confusion.
I am currently seeking serious help for my mental health and undergoing an evaluation, but I know it may be too little, too late. I am truly ashamed of my actions and the pain Iâve inflicted, not just on my wife but on all of you as well.
Iâm so sorry for dragging you into this mess and for speaking poorly of Y/N, who has shown me nothing but kindness. I feel utterly pathetic for what Iâve done, and I can only hope for forgiveness, even though I know I donât deserve it.
Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
Sincerely,James
Looking up from the screen James can hardly speak again. âIâm not sending that!â he snaps scornfully. His pride would not allow it.
âI think you are and I bet you don't tell anyone about my visit either. Wonât make you look too sane. Promise you this, if I have to deal with another frown from something you did to my woman you won't walk again. You try something slick and your pops will be in the morgue first. You shouldâve respected your beauty but now youâve woken up a beast.â Rio stands as Jamesâ night nurse enters. Rio waits for James to cry foul but he doesn't. Nodding Rio gives the nurse her cue. A sleep draft is administered and before James can make any stupid decisions heâs forced into a temporary sleep. The messages are sent, the story is posted and Rio leaves the hospital having snatched away all Jamesâ power, safety and ego. According to the nurse, recovery would take at least six months which would be enough time to decide how to end him and make it look accidental.
Authors Note: Whew, this was a long one with a little of everything. I hope you all are happy with James getting his just due. Rio said aht aht aht, you're gonna suffer like you tried to make my girl. You're gonna go crazy like you tried to make my girl. Stick around and try me big dog đ What was your favourite part of the chapter? Also, I still have some time to finish up the final part so let me know any suggestions below or in my inbox đ„ .
