Before the K1 Visa (I-129F package)
Here we go! So let’s start with my K1 visa journey. We have already submitted our petition or what other people call I-29F package and we are just patiently waiting for our approval for the K1-Visa. But I want to start from the very beginning. If you’re in an online relationship and planning to move to the United States to marry your significant other, you need a K-1 Visa. If you go to the United States and marry your fiancé with a tourist visa then you will definitely get into trouble. Tourist visa is mainly for tourism and visiting purposes only. During my interview for my B1 visa (visitor visa) the consulate officer asked if we were getting married, obviously I said no since I was only planning to visit my boyfriend at the time. They wanted to know if I was going to use my B1 visa to marry my boyfriend. If I did say “yes” I would definitely be declined a visitor visa. I have read online that you are allowed to get married outside the United States and file for a Spousal Visa (K3 Visa) afterwards. This K3 Visa takes just as long as a K1 Visa that’s why I opted for a K1 Visa. This visa gives you 90 days to marry your fiancé and after that you can file for a permanent residence or green card. A reality show was even based on this type of visa! TLC 90 Day fiancé. It just seemed more practical to do the K1-Visa because it gave us more time to plan for our wedding and to budget our money for the K1-Visa Fees (yes they are very costly) In my next blog post I will teach you step by step how to assemble an I-129F without the help of a lawyer. This way you save up to $800 on legal fees in assembling your package. It’s time consuming but way worth it!
