♣ - a fading memory
A child Altair grumbled, as he tried yet again to throw a fishing line into the water. It hadn’t taken him long to decide he needed to learn how to fish. There was a lake to the south of Castle Town... it was only an hour or two walk from the Castle. If he left before noon... then he could make it to the lake, fish, and be back before it got dark.
He wasn’t strong enough to defend himself out here after dark yet... he was trying, but the last time he dawdled too long getting back... he nearly died.
He pulled the line back out of the water with nothing on the hook. He frowned, and sighed. He’d been trying to fish for hours now with no luck. It seemed like once again... he was going home hungry. At this rate... he’d probably starve to death before he learned how to fish.
Altair looked up at the sky and sighed. Guess he better go pick some berries from the forest before he ran out of time...
As he turned to go though, he swore he saw someone... hiding in the cover of the trees nearby. But, when he turned to get a look at them, they were already gone.
Altair frowned even deeper. He didn’t have time for this! He had to find himself some food before it got too late!
The next day, Altair returned to the lake to try his luck at fishing once again... but this time... he found a basket sitting there on the ground where he had been fishing yesterday. This basket was full of...
“Fish?“ He asked, tilting his head slightly as he did. But why was...
He looked around curiously... but there was no one there. Starving, and close to desperate, he quickly snatched up the fish from the basket, and threw them in his backpack... before running as fast as he could back home.
But, surprisingly enough... every day since then, from that point, until the time he finally taught himself how to fish... he found that same basket sitting there waiting for him... but he never did learn who was putting it there...?
