People wanting Dany and Sansa as bff's what really wanted was a Sansa like s8 Jon. No personality, no agency, being all time "your mai kween" and "I loove you".
Someone completely subservient to her.
I truly believe people wanting Sansa and Dany to be best friends in S8 is one of the best examples of absolute hate and disrespect towards Sansakfjdlskdjflksdj. Like, dramatic? Maybe. Accurate? For sure.
I completely get someone whoās a massive Daenerys fan (specifically ones that are toxic and mean and taint the name of those who are wonderful and kind) (as is the fandom life, every fandom has those people. it blows) to want Sansa to be besties with her -- that makes complete sense to me. Sansa ending up besties with Daenerys is basically just another confirmation that everything they think about her is true and everything we (for instance) think about her is wrong. It means that Sansa Stark stood in front of Daenerys and, like those before her, was in awe of what she saw. It means Sansaās dumb fans were wrong and dumb the whole time, because even THEIR queen sees that Daenerys is benevolent and wonderful.
Even if youāre notĀ one of the mean spirited fans of Daenerys and are simply a nice person who loves the character, wants her to be happy, and doesnāt spend your time attacking people -- having Sansa on her side offers nothing but good things, really. Itās more good will in the eyes of Westeros to have The Lady of Winterfell cheering you on and supporting your efforts. Itās more allies for her cause. Itās more pseudo friends (and if you love a character obviously you want good things for them, so more friends is a positive -- even if those friends are all there to serve the other). It also just removes a massive potential blockade. Sansa Stark loving her, getting along with her, and having no problems, at all, that sheās invading the nation, makes for a smoother take over of the North and Westeros as a whole.
So, it just is one Big Positive, in those regards. Daenerysā conquering of Westeros goes over with less resistance and she has another person to make her feel good about herself -- both of which provide her with happiness and success.
But, Sansa? Sansa Stark? Wanting Sansa to best friends with Daenerys?Ā Wanting Sansa to be best friends with Daenerys is immediately asking to remove every ounce of agency, desire, and will from her blood and bones. In order for SANSA to be best friends with Dany, one of two things has to occur.Ā
The first thing is that she has to have a personality transplant.
No matter how dumb the audience tries to pretend that she is, Sansa has long since passed wanting to love and be loved by someone for no reason other than theyāre beautiful and awe inspiring, with thrilling romantic tales. (Which wasnāt dumb, anyway š but whatever). In order for S8 Sansa to willingly want to stand at Daenerysā feet and coo and caw in pleasant small talk about how exciting it is that Daenerys is there to wage war on a war worn nation, subjugate her home and her people, put Sansa in theoretical chains once more, have total power over her family and loved ones, and strip Jon of every fiber of whatever life in his soul he has left, every single ounce of character development from Sansa needs to suddenly evaporate from her being, so that she can see anything about her as a positive. She has to become a personality-less shell, who no longer cares about her own personal agency, her love of her homeland, her desire to protect her people, or her love of her family. Itās the only way she can willingly take part in that friendship.
The second option is that she isnāt doing it willingly.
And that is self explanatory.
The second option is that Sansa isnāt bled of the core of her being through the writing, alone, to give Daenerys more of the love that she craves -- sheās, instead, actively trapped within the narrative, through the threat of life and wellbeing -- hers and her familyās and her people. Sheās not willingly braiding Daenerysā hair -- she has no choice but to sit there with the brush. Once again a prisoner, after all of the emotional and physical torment and torture and grooming she went through -- after her years long fight to stand in her home, with her family, with her sense of self. Making plaits as her own personal agency is forcibly stripped of her, once more.
And thatās some hate and disrespect, if Iāve ever seen it.
