     what happens when your father is the mogul of all neurosurgeons ? aiden found it easier to delve into the profession , all in all to have his father’s affections . but that wasn’t always his plan . the park’s weren’t strangers to the south korean elite , his father’s name one running mouth through mouth as a very talented , precise neurosurgeon who helped thousands of people every year . his mother , docile by nature , was one to aid to various causes , even though she didn’t held a precise job . when aiden was born , he became the center of her whole world . 

     not that it mattered to his father , but as long as he had his mother , he got all the love he could ever want . as an incredibly smart child growing into a very intellectual teen , aiden went on to take up violin and become incredibly gifted in the craft , for his mother’s delight . she loved the instrument and even more that her son was so talented . but fate has a way to show itself , and that’s exactly what happened  . ( tw car crash / tw brain injury ) as they were returning from a performance , one would said the young child was restless , happy for the performance , or maybe ms. park was excited for her only son . crossing that red light had disasterous consequences . aiden was thirteen and yet still grasped that his mother’s life was on the line , that her brain needed surgery , and so he turned to the only man everyone thought could fix anything : his father .

     and yet ? he was found with disappointment , as his mother passed away a few days later , even with surgery . that was the moment aiden completely changed his perspective to life . of course his relationship with his father had never existed , but it soured even more . as before it was already usual for them to move , but with this life change , they finally settled in america . it didn’t take him much at the age of eighteen to finally move out and find some sort of freedom in evergreen university .

for as long as charlie knew, her immediate family were her aunt, uncle, and her cousin. no mother, no father, and a sibling who’s vague memory felt too unreal to be true. the more she grew up, the more she found out about them from little stories she heard here and there, and whenever she persisted on knowing.

her parents passed away in a car accident when she was about a year old. the girl was left with a nanny while her parents went out to run errands, and they never came back. after that, little charlie was adopted and taken in by her godmother, her aunt.

the more charlie grew up, the more she found out. there was a brother. she vaguely remembered him. he was about three or four years older than herself, and he was adopted by another relative who lived in another far-away state. charlie never understood why the two were split up. she couldn’t understand why her aunt couldn’t just take in the both of them. but alas, charlie grew up never knowing him enough. she met him a few times in person, and it was strange. it always seemed like he didn’t know how to act around his own sister, and would always be awkward or cut the day short. charlie grew to not really care about him anymore. he didn’t feel like family to her. she even found out that once he hit eighteen, he left his home and was never seen again.

charlie was just thankful to have grow up in a loving home where her aunt and uncle felt like her own parents, and her cousin felt like her sister. although there was always that boundary she felt between her and the three of them. which is why she kept to herself more and more as she got older.

the only person charlie had opened up to the most was her best friend nico ( @nicocampbell​ ). the two knew each other since they were about eleven years old. the girl was trying so hard to fit in, dressing up like the other little girls in her class and not being herself. it was until the day she had fought a bully in her group of her so-called friends who called her ugly, and came back to school the next day with her hair freshly chopped off that morning to shoulder length. that was the day she lost the people she thought were her friends, and instead had a fascinated looking boy coming up to her and calling her ‘cool’ for fighting a bully. ever since that day, she stuck by nico’s side and hadn’t regretted it ever since.

the two had started to date during their senior year, and by the time they graduated high school and were deciding on what to do next, nico had decided to leave for LA to chase his dreams. while charlie decided to new york to chase her own. she was dreaming too big for her own good. she attended NYU for graphic design with a scholarship and spent the last four years of her life there, living in dorms and shared houses with university friends.

unfortunately, the two couldn’t keep a long distance relationship with how busy they both got, and decided to end it. now what happens when two awkward people break up and decide to “stay friends”? of course they lose all contact. charlie kept up with nico’s life online, but she never dared to send a text for whatever irrational fear she had.

now she’d graduated from NYU, and worked as a graphic designer for some companies here and there. some being big and some being small. unfortunately, she realized she was being taken advantage of for her skills. she happened to only receive offers for unpaid internships or jobs that paid too little. she eventually couldn’t afford to live in new york any more, and she missed her hometown. so eventually, she decided to pack all of her things and move back to san verto. she lived at her aunt’s house once again like she used to, and stayed there for a few months until she was able to raise more money from her freelance work and her new job at a thrift store to be able to afford her own place.

if you knew of charlie in high school, you probably knew her as the girl with short and colorful hair, and really dark clothing. she was quiet back then, and very socially awkward. she stuck to her own group, and had her rough edges. some people even told her they found her intimidating back then. she was the definition of resting bitch face tm. 

as she grew up and went off to uni, she had to make friends and be nice to people in order to survive socially. she became nicer, but still had her mean and sarcastic moments. she’s more understanding, but sometimes could let her temper get in the way. she’s still very awkward when it comes to people she doesn’t know, and has a hard time making friends, so she still only sticks to the people she knows. charlie is dry humor central and would make fun of you if she’s comfortable enough with you. she’s the type of person who could come off like they don’t care about you, but if you ask her for anything, she’d be here for you.

growing up, nico and his sister hayley, heard a lot of “who told you you were adopted?”-type jokes from their white, cookie-cutter american parents. the fact that they’d adopted nico when he was one year old, and a couple of years later hayley, was never something that they tried to ignore. however that didn’t ease nico’s hurt over barely knowing his own history.

everyone knows that one stage little kids go through where every sentence they say is a question. sadly for nico, most of his questions relating to his culture and history were left unanswered, simply because his parents didn’t know either. this wasn’t all his parents fault, but in a little kids eyes, parents are supposed to know everything.

overall his parents were loving and caring, always encouraging any hobbies or interests they’d want to try. art classes, music classes, anything that caught the little boys eye, and he turned out to be pretty talented at both drawing and bass guitar. however, there were no classes that could teach him about his roots, not in the way he wanted anyway. he didn’t want to be just looking in from the outside, he wanted to be a part of it.

the answer to that turned out to be his best friend charlie and her family. many ours were spend at their kitchen table, listening to their conversations in korean until finally he asked for them to help him learn, and then he never stopped. things seemed to be looking up.

high school was a blur of mcr concerts, gaming at charlie’s house, making sure his younger sister - the more extroverted one out of the two of them - stayed out of trouble and then finally, finally, graduating. all throughout high school he’d dreamed of moving to los angeles to study music but mostly to play it. the studying was mostly to keep his parents happy, but he wanted to play bass in a band. warped tour, sweaty venues, the whole thing. it didn’t really work out as he’d planned.

shortly before university graduation, his band fell apart, leaving him without a job - not that he’d ever actually made money from his music - without friends, and without a real reason to stay in los angeles. not that there was much waiting for him back hom in san verto either, having lost contact with most of his friends back home as well, but at least he’d have his family, most importantly his sister.

which brings us here. it’s not ideal, working as a bartender at the local venue instead of playing there with his band, but it pays the bills and gives him the opportunity to reconnect with his old life.

mike grew up being an only child, and always around the company of his mother in their house. his father was always traveling back and forth from south korea to the states for work. his parents have met at work on one of his father’s trips to the states, and they fell in love. his mother being american-born, she couldn’t really leave philadelphia. she loved it there. so they decided to keep it a long distance relationship.

sometime during those fleeting meetings, she had gotten pregnant with michael. and of course, his father spoiled them both, giving them everything they wanted. he never left them to fend for themselves. when the boy was born, his father named him myungjun, and his mother decided to name him michael for his english name. the nicknames jun, mike, and sometimes junnie were often heard whenever his parents or childhood friends called him.

up until mike was five years old in 2004, he’s lived with his mother, while his father was leaving and coming back for a week or two. but that year, he’s finally moved to the states and stayed with them for longer nights. he even finally married michael’s mother. of course, he still disappeared for a few days or weeks on end for work.

but that was also the year michael’s mother found out that her husband was with another woman. michael has never seen his mother break down like that before. sadly, the young boy was peering into the room when the fight happened and witnessed everything. his mother made her partner choose between the two women, and he eventually told her that he was going to divorce his first wife for her, and appeared to have gone through with his promise. because after that incident, he’s been around more often.

by early 2015, when michael had just turned 16, his mother had gotten a teaching job in ashdown academy, which resulted in their move to san verto, california. meaning, new school and new friends for mike. meanwhile, his dad was still traveling a lot for business and coming back whenever he could.

michael has grown up as a cheerful and energetic child. his friends at any school he went to would tell you how much of a great friend he is, how trustworthy and caring he is. it was so easy for him to make friends anywhere. he was the type of friend who would smile at you and listen to you talk on and on about whatever you liked, and the type who would cheer you on with anything you want to achieve. he wanted everyone to feel included and loved.

so it wasn’t that hard for him to get along with new people once he moved to town. he was a very social person. 

he was also the type of teenager who was out there doing things he wasn’t supposed to. he missed his old friends and his old home, but he wanted to have fun with all the new kids he was befriending. that simply resulted in him going to house parties as an underaged teen to ‘have fun’. his mother didn’t approve of him coming home very late at night, clearly smelling like smoke and alcohol. 

internally he was a depressed mess. of course, no one is completely happy as they grow up. his family was a mess, even if it appeared as fine to everyone else. his family life affected him so much while growing up. mike sometimes could disappear for a few days in his room, and it was always during some of his bad spells.

what made it worse was the day he found out the truth.

it was 2017 when michael walked into his father’s office in their house, looking for him to ask him about something. and instead of finding the man, he found a stack of papers poking from underneath his father’s laptop. upon closer look, they appeared to be divorce papers. michael’s heart sunk, thinking his parents were breaking it off.

michael is a curious kid, he couldn’t help but close the door and read the papers. but what he saw wasn’t his mother’s name, it was another woman. his heart raced, as he put things back where they were and immediately left the room. michael had found out one of his father’s many secrets. he never divorced his first wife all those years ago. he lied and somehow stayed with both women without suspicion... well, until now. clearly the other woman was breaking it off for a reason. 

michael couldn’t help his curiosity. he came back to the room later that night and snapped as many pictures as he could of evidence he could find. he even found his father’s phone (which was easy to figure out the password of) and found a plethora of pictures of the man with a different family, different kids and a different partner. he airdropped the pictures to himself to avoid leaving any traces behind and quickly left again.

a quick search on facebook, and he managed to find the first wife. it was easy with the name and pictures he had. if anything, michael prided himself on being a good internet detective... or stalker. he spent everyday trying to find the rest of the family on the internet. he found the woman’s young daughter on instagram and twitter, along with her older son’s accounts as well. it felt weird. it was a constant “now what?” for michael. he’s found them. what was he going to do now? he couldn’t just message them and tell them everything. and he couldn’t break his mother’s heart by letting her know.

except he had to let her know. he could never live with the fact that he knew his father was betraying her this entire time. and so michael told her everything, and after comforting her all night when she broke down yet again, she immediately ended things and asked for a divorce. now it was just michael and his mother, all alone. and for once, having to get by on their own.

thankfully they were safe, with his mother’s amazing money management skills, and the job she got at the academy, they managed to live their regular lives despite the heavy feeling of a broken family looming around them. the two just wanted to be happy again.

michael spent the next few years trying to lead a normal life. his mental health had gotten worse after everything he’s found out. he went to college, and he continued trying to do well in school. he really wasn’t the best when it came to grades, but he was trying his best.

and truthfully, he couldn’t help but make a few spare accounts on some social medias to follow his father’s other family.

but he eventually decided to just let it go, assuming they definitely knew about his mother and himself, which would explain the first divorce. so he decided to put it in the past and move on.

his mother has moved on as well. she found herself someone who actually cares about her so much (mike’s stupid ass has done a secret background check to make sure this dude wasn’t another cheater lmaoo) and now mike isn’t an only child anymore. it’s been 2 years since his little sister yuna was born, and he loves her so much. he still isn’t used to the idea of a new fatherly figure in his life, but he’s.... getting there.

   avery was , by all means , was a miracle baby . not in a way you think , since their parents already had four children . they were , however , all adopted , which meant avery was their first biological child ( and only ) . their parents were very open , welcoming people , unlike how msome people would like to assume in their neighborhood : they did love all their children equally and overall , avery’s childhood was filled with happiness and love . her father was a radio dj , so avery caught the music bug very early in life and their mother sold her pottery pieces , so her taste for art also was early in their life . so when she chose to pursue art , sketching and painting , her parents were nothing but thrilled .

   a teenage avery was so , a free spirit , much like their parents . but in the same fashion , they were also extremely naive . queue the trashbag of a man that walked into their life . as some sort of strictness to their life , and to appease their grandmother , avery was signed into an all - girl christian school and that year , the school permitted the principal’s son to attend the school ; let’s just say all the girls were going insane . including avery . a sixteen year old avery found nothing wrong on having a crush on the only boy in campus , and for the lucky stars , he liked her back . or so they thought . it was safe to say the boy did everything with everyone in front and in avery’s back , but that wouldn’t be enough . he had to try and ruin her life too .

   fortunately , their parents caught onto avery’s behavior . the once joyful girl they had at home turned reserved and moody for no apparent reason . onto investigating , they finally found why : a damn boy . of course avery finished their high school years from home ; their grandmother refused to pay for another school and her parents refused to let her keep going there . all in all , avery didn’t mind staying home surrounded by her parents and siblings . the natural moving to a small town happened ... out naturally. 

keon was a foster kid. his parents had him when they were sixteen & were ill-equipped to take on the responsibility so they did what they thought would give him a better life. unfortunately, he never found a place to call home & wound up in the system until he got out at eighteen.

ever since he was a kid, he’s always been a wanderer. he’d often run away from home & walk the streets or take a bus somewhere, anywhere that wasn’t california. there were rumors that he’d skip out for good & travel the world with his thumb in the air, but somehow or another, he wound up back in san verto at twenty-one & hasn’t left the city since. no one knows the real story behind his return & he’s not about to explain himself either.

he’s super unreliable and will often forget he’s made plans bc his mind is always on the go, go, go. never wanting to be bored, so he fills a lot of his time doing aimless shit like throwing pointed rocks at trees to see if he can stick one into a stump like a ninja star. so most likely he’ll be late to things or won’t show up at all — he used to apologize for this, but now it’s just part of his character and people are often surprised if he remembers having plans at all.

he has a terrible smoking habit and often keeps a cigarette tucked behind his ear “just in case he needs one”. there have been many times he’s tried quitting, but he hates how irritable he gets without the nicotine so his quitting sprees never last more than a few days.

his skateboard is basically his pride and joy, he doesn’t let anyone touch it. he’s had it since he was ten and the bottom of it is scratched up to bits and the wheels are a little janky. like idk how it’s still viable transportation for him bc he should probably look into getting a new one, but it’s the one thing he’s sentimental about, so he’s not about to let go of it any time soon.

Born on the edge of town, where San Verto ended and nature began, Avi Maura Melrose had a very idyllic childhood. She spent her time surrounded by nature, wandering through the woods surrounding her home, trailing after the many older cousins she shared said home with. It was a happy childhood, despite her not-so-wealthy family often being looked down upon by the rest of the town. Not so much for being poor, more for being weird.

Avi’s family home was known for being the house that you went to to get your palms read, or have an eccentric-looking woman do a tarot spread for you. It always smelled like weird tea and sage. Avi’s mother, Esther, had always had a way with tarot cards and the like. To the Melrose family this wasn’t really odd. Esther and her sisters learned from her mother, just like their mother had learned from their grandmother and so on. Men never stuck around for very long, leaving a huge run down house with just women and children, Avi being one of the youngest ones. The baby of the family.

If there’s one thing that’s gonna make your life even harder when you’re already seen as the weird kid, it’s being the weird kid and being trans. Lucky for Avi, her family has always been more than accepting, there was always space for her to express herself as she wanted to. And a benefit of being the baby of the family meant that there was a team of older cousins ready to defend her at school. If that hadn’t been the case, the bullying she endured as a kid might have had some very negative and lasting effects. Instead, being her most authentic self became kind of an act of rebellion. She learned how to be happy by herself, by being herself.

Avi never really realised how she actually really missed having a friend, always being content either by herself of with the numerous cousins she could play with. It wasn’t until she was 9 that she finally became friends with Mae, the new girl in town. They immediately hit it off, and have been pretty inseparable since.

Avi took on a job at the local thrift shop when she was 16. She’d always been pretty crafty with all the hand-me-downs she got from her family, making herself a very unique wardrobe. But if she wanted something that wasn’t already worn to bits by someone else, she needed money and she wasn’t going to get it from her mom. She could have joined the family business and made a career out of tea leaves like her mother and aunts, but that isn’t what she wants to do with her life. Reading tarot is a quirky party trick for her, not a job. 

What she wants to do instead, well she isn’t sure what she wants actually. It’s not that she has no idea, she has too many. She wants to be a therapist, so she can help trans kids like herself, but she also wants to do something artistic because she’s always loved drawing, but she also loves music. And then there’s the issue of paying for college. She has collected quite the following on instagram over the past few months though, but that was never her intention, nor does she know what the next steps would be to make a career out of it. So until she figures that out, you’ll probably see her hanging around town. You can’t really miss her. She’s probably wearing something neon pink.
