Food Types - critique
These were the design ideas that I presented during my critique. I took some notes as well and I’m going to try and apply them in my designs because I feel that my project is in a good path but there is a lot of room for improvement.

these are a few photos I took to use in my design. I photographed these in my kitchen as I wanted them in a natural setting and somewhere users would create their cocktail.
food types brief
For my final design I used a full bleed image which also bleeds onto the right hand side page slightly. I used a scalloped edge box to compliment the shape of the glass as that is the main feature of the recipe design. I used type on a path to create the curved title to continue with the curved/rounded theme as well as the use of the pink circle to highlight the sidebar.
The colour scheme I decided on was different shades of pink, the border is the same shade of pink as the fruit loops in the cocktail and the other shades are a lower opacity of the original shade.
The fonts I used were Museo Sans for the body copy, title and subtitle, Bodoni 72 for the stand first, sidebar and the pull quote.
I used a 6x3 grid, which was a similar grid to the alchemist cocktail book.

Week 8
I test printed my double page spread as I could not tell properly how the colours would come out by designing in CMYK. Some of the shades looked brighter than I wanted to on my laptop, so I test printed to check.
I saw that the bright green printed my desired shade, but the red printed pinkier than I wanted it too. I therefore changed my red to the darker maroon from my previous colour palette. I then printed this version and was much happier. I then also expanded my background colour and imagery out, and added bleed to my document settings for printing.
I printed on studio paper as my G.F.Smith Naturalis A3 paper also didn’t come on time due to Royal Mail Easter backlog. I was happy with this paper as it was very similar with a high quality satin feel.
Final Design for Food Types
Recipe Design 4
For this final design, I wanted to do another simple layout but this time I added a little colour to the page, the colour is picked from the image. I added dividing lines to create a system of what you’d look at first. I highlighted the ingredients with a box to create separation between the text. I do think that the spacing of the text needs to be spread out a little more as it all looks like one.
