July was about what I expected for progress—I did actually end up finishing Chapter Ten just in time for the end of the month update on Patreon, but I'm not releasing it publicly quite yet.
Basically, I'm going to bundle its public release with that of the epilogue, so you can read the end of the story all at once. I anticipate this will happen sometime around mid-late August, so keep an eye on the blog if you'd like; I'll be sure to let everyone know when I have a firm release date.
After that, well, I'll be taking feedback and trying to beat the first draft into the kind of thing that won't cause a professional copyeditor retinal damage. Then: submission!
But all that's a little farther away yet. I'll be back soon to say more, I hope. Until then, I hope you all have a lovely August.

Things have been fairly chill here on the blog this month, which is more than fine, and I'm still plodding away at Chapter Nine. I somehow actually managed around 100,000 words this month, which would ordinarily be enough to have finished a chapter, but Nine is quite the beast, being the penultimate one and, really, the correct time to get a lot of plot threads tied off as neatly as possible.
All to say, it's probably going to be about double the length of a typical chapter, at least.
This is, naturally, quite fine. As an author, I've got to to what I've got to do to try and give things satisfying conclusions that aren't too rushed or terse, and I'm doing my best to achieve that, especially in the RO/PO scenes.
I anticipate (optimistically) that we might be looking at a mid-June public release of Chapter Nine, after which hopefully Ten and the Epilogue will be slightly less... unwieldy.
I'll let you know how that's all going when we hit June, but until then, I hope you all have a better May than your April was.
It’s April now, but in spite of this post appearing on the 1st, it is not a joke. In addition to releasing Chapter Eight, I managed to write a grand total of around 60,000 new words—and that’s just fresh progress on Chapter Nine, so I’m quite pleased with it. It translates to several scenes, and I’d estimate myself to be about a third of the way through Chapter Nine as of now.
Additionally, I made a few edits to earlier chapters, mostly just small moments here and there, and some pretty significant strides in planning my next project. I’m getting excited about it, and I hope you’ll like it when it appears.
Of course, my main focus is finishing BotL and thus the FoA duology, but I’d like to hit the ground running on the next thing when that happens, so I’m trying to pave the road in advance, so to speak.
Anyway, that was March. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish in April. As always, thanks for being along for the ride, and have a lovely month!
As I may have mentioned earlier this month, February was a fantastically productive month for me. Here is a mostly-exhaustive list of the things I got done:
I finished six of the scenes in Chapter Eight, leaving me with five more to go after the two I did in January. This places the likely public release of Chapter Eight in mid-late March, supposing I can keep around the same pace.
I also added material to earlier chapters, including some of the bits of feedback I'd been holding onto for ages. There are more options in the Pirithous and Theseus trial, I have corrected my accidental dropping of the plot point involving the PC's magic being fused to someone else's (though the actual resolution of that is planned for Chapter Nine, so it's only a couple mentions at this point), and I added some nuances to the Iasion plot, including a new set of options for PCs who had been avoiding all contact until the Kronos matter forced it.
I did some basic continuity edits on Chapter One.
And I added the chapter skip feature a few of you requested. Like the character creator, it's not perfect, but it should do for the basics of getting you to Chapter Four, Six, or Eight—whichever you prefer—which will hopefully reduce the amount of rereading and clicking through you need to do by... a lot.
I also (finally) finished something unrelated to BotL, but I'll have more to say about that later.
And I'm making good headway on planning my next couple of projects, which I'll say more about in the coming months.
Stay tuned for the release date announcement for Chapter Eight (where you'll also be able to access these other changes), and of course, if you want to see much of this in advance, please consider joining the Patreon.
Until next time, I hope you've a delightful month.
It's been quiet around here of late, which suits me just fine. I've mostly been keeping my head down trying to get through Chapter Seven, which is 108,000 words by itself as of today. I'm hoping to finish it off by the end of the month, but scope creep has hit hard with this chapter, so all I can say for sure is that I'll do my best to get there.
I think at this time last year I was still working on Chapter Two, so overall I've had a really good year of progress on BotL. My goal this year is to finish, polish, and submit it for publication, and then hopefully to at least get a start on whatever comes next. I'm not sure exactly what that's going to be, but I imagine it will be wildly different.
It's definitely way too early to be getting nostalgic about this duology project, but I will say I'm looking forward to this last part of the journey with all of you. As always, thank you for supporting what I do; I've the best readers in IF, no question about that.
I hope all of you have a fantastic 2026. May you achieve your aims in comfort and style. :)

I have some good news and some... middling news? I don't think it's bad or anything, but it might be a tad disappointing for some, so I'll start with that.
Long story short, I've decided to hold off on releasing Chapter Ten until the epilogue is also finished, so you can get the complete "end of FoA" experience at once. (Or at least, end of the first draft, as it were).
The good news is, that chapter is done, and the epilogue is in progress. I'm hoping I'll be able to have both to you by the end of the month, after the usual early access period on Patreon. So it should be a very short time now before the end of the game is in your hands/on your screens.
That's about the long and short of it for this month. I hope you're all doing well, and that Spooky Season treats you excellently, if you celebrate. (And non-spooky October does if you don't.)
I'm back again to report that the epilogue got a lot longer than I expected (as chapters often do). I'm now 35,000 words into it, and I do think it'll probably come out to around 50k in total. So the bad news is, it isn't quite done yet.
The good news is, I do think it will be done in November, at which point, it and Chapter Ten will go through the usual early access cycle and then be released to the public. As I've mentioned before, that complete "first draft" of the game will remain up and hosted on Dashingdon (where is is now; the same link will still work), until such time as I submit for publication through Hosted Games (the Choice of Games offshoot for people they don't specifically hire to write a game).
I'm not sure how long the gap between those two things will be. It depends very much on how much editing I decide to do and how fast I'm able to get through it, which is something I'll probably only know when I'm in the thick of it. But I hope to make the second draft a considerable improvement on the first, in pacing, flow, and game design, so I do anticipate it taking at least a few months.
I'll probably talk about that process a little bit here and a lot on Patreon for those interested in seeing what changes the game goes through! I may also recruit a smaller beta testing group for more intensive feedback on the changes, but I'm not sure on that yet so if you're interested, please hold!
Anyway, I think that's about it for this month. Thanks for sticking with me, and welcome to the home stretch, as they say!
As the post title indicates, chapter seven is now live and available for everyone to play.
In this chapter, enjoy (or don't) a gathering of friends, spend a little quality time with someone, and be interrupted by an impending disaster! (Don't you love those?)
Special content warnings this time for:
Fantasy violence and some gore
Light horror elements, esp. on Alekto and Pyri's routes
Villains being nasty (in particular some sexism, directed at an NPC)
Drug and alcohol use (entirely optional on the PC's part)
Pyri attempting to dance (/j; they do on some playthroughs but it doesn't need a content warning)
I recommend playing with a new save, as some new variables were added and you may get continuity errors without them, but it isn't the biggest issue even if you do, I don't think.
And for those of you who are wondering, chapter seven has a total of 253,090 words, bringing Asphodel itself to a total of 812,347 words!
