CW: Violence, blood, swearing, Original Character, Canon AU, mentions of connections to the One Piece canon story, not very well edited. Finally posting the first chapter of one of my works for the writing challenge. This is my first Fanfic that Iâm actually posting for others to see. This is the first Chapter of Sel's backstory starting at 8 years old. only proofread once.
The sun shined along the beautiful sea near the grand line, trees brushing against one another, the air was fresh thanks to the ocean followed by a relaxing breeze. The long green grass started to rustle even more when the footsteps of a young girl ran through the tall grass, the sun shined along her olive skin, and her long dark hair flowed through the ocean breeze. Behind her you could hear stern voices calling her, trying to chase after her . This only made the little girl run faster, sheâs wasnât going to let anyone disrupt her little adventure.
âSelbeana! You get back here this instant your father inisited you stay hereâ the voice shouted. Selbeana ran even faster to catch up to her father.
At the heart of the Grand line, there lived a group of very peculiar people from many walks of life, many mixed of multiracial cultures within this tribe, they were known as the Grand Line Nomads. Many hunters this group would travel across the seas, going where the wind would take them and, hunting wild animals for food, clothing, finding plants to help with medicine. However, younger people in the tribe usually stayed within the grand line until they were old enough to go on larger adventures, the only reason they are called âGrand Line, Nomadsâ was because that is where they came from but eventually spread out more as generations passed.
The little girl, Selbeana only 8 years old now couldnât travel just yet but, she would not let her age stop that from happening.
She finally reached the spot where her father had gone, she sat upon a cliff and looked down upon her father, he was a tall buff man, similar skin tone, broad shoulders and youthful face. He came face to face with a giant beast spear in hand followed by his fellow huntsman. His form and strategies around fighting were ones you would never want to come across, it was something to be heavily admired for sure. Selbeana stared in awe as her father struck down the beast with one blow of the spear, she could not help but admire her own fatherâs skill, and she wanted to be just like him.
âSelbeana look out!!!â A voice shouted behind her, she was met face to face by a bunch of pirates, they came out one by one cornering her completely.
The menacing pirates stared down upon her with ropes and swords in hand. âYes we finally got one boys, sheâs going to sell well, wonder how a celestial dragons will pay for herâ said one of the pirates. Selbeana stepped back in fear almost frozen no ability to scream just frozen in fear. The fear was then eventually broken when a huge strike of a spear stabbed one of the pirates through the chest, Selbeanaâs father stood between her and the pirates, his tall stature and intimidation making all the pirates feel small, but they werenât going to let that stop them. âIâm going to be nice and let you pirate scum walk away, but if you try to pick a fight with me just to go after my daughter Iâll happily kill you and skin you aliveâ her father warned. That threat wasnât quite enough to have the pirates scared enough to run off, they drew their swords âfine big guy, weâll take you as well Iâm sure youâll both be of good use. Selbeanaâs father smirked as her drew his spear again âfine then, have it your way, get my daughter out of hereâ he shouted to the other huntsman. They snatched up Selbeana to get her out of the battle. Her fatherâs smooth and stealth moves along with his armanent haki gave the pirates a run for their money, one by one, each went down at the stroke of a spear.
As he stood over the captain of the crew the pirate saidâŚ.âyou are *cough* on tough guy, your daughter sure is lucky to have a father like you, if it wasnât for you she would be ours by now, who knew a child like that would have such a womanly figure,â he laughed. A sudden shift in the air and darkness rose upon Selbeanaâs father, his cold stare and demeanour sent a shiver down everyoneâs spine he raised his spear and struck right through the Manâs heart but he didnât stop from here he continued to go into overkill until he felt like he had had enough. The other pirates got up in fear and ran away as the tall broad man stared upon their captains corpse, âmy daughter is eight-years-old you fucking piece of shit , the fact that you said that to my face makes me feel almost ashamed to be a manâ he put his head on the chest of the man and spat on his corpse âyou, know when I go for the kill, I make sure my prey doesnât suffer, but Iâll let you be an exception,â before he was about to jab his spear through one more time he was interrupted by a shocked voice âboss Jordan, we were able to bring Selbeana back to your wife not letâs juâ-holy shit what happened here, this is insane, you know we shouldnât be trying to kill other humans, look at this messâ the huntsman shouted! Jordan finally removed his spear from the body and looked towards the younger huntsman, despite being covered in blood a smile rose across his face âof course Michael, but when they go to the lengths of threatening our own to the point of vulgar torture that makes my stomach churn, I feel like I have no choice but to show them we are not ones to be trifled with, and I wish this was something this tribe would remember, anyways I need to have a serious talk with my daughter.
âLet go of me! I wanna watch my daddy fight the pirates, please?â Selbeana protested, she was being carried underarm of one of her fatherâs fellow huntsman kicking and trying to fight out of his grasp âfight all you want young one, but I was given specific instructions by your father to take you back to base, you really scared your mother you knowâ the huntsman replied. Selbeana pouted at the answer and shouted more in protest âso? my dream is to become a really skilled hunter just like my daddy, and I need to watch and see how he fights, how am I supposed to be a good hunter when I canât watch other people do it? Now let me go do so can see my daddy!â She said. The huntsman only held onto her even tighter âoh Sel, you really are like your father you know. You are both very keen on what you both want but my goodness you are stubborn, you, canât even imagine what youâll be like once you reach your teenage years, if you end up being like your dad and that age, I donât k is what Iâll do?â he chuckled.
The little argument was interrupted by Michael and Jordan trotting down on horseback to meet them. âI can take it from here Harry, Selbeana dear I need to speak with you. Selbeana was passed off onto Jordan and she got sit on the front of the saddle, she looked up at him smiling with joy hoping her father would give her another pass for running off yet again, unfortunately that didnât work ânow donât you make that face again young lady you are in a lot of trouble, you need to stop running off from the village like that, you are going to give your mother a heart attack, as if life wasnât already hard enough for her, itâs not safe for a little girl like you to be wandering around, we are in the middle of the great pirate era, the grand line has been crawling with them, not to Mention they are taking almost all the food, itâs been so hard to hunt which explains why we have to travel to the four seas more often than we used tooâ Jordan explained. âEver since Gold Rogerâs execution all of those years ago, itâs almost become super dangerous to hunt. All these pirates running a muck disturbing the eco systemâ Harry protested. Selbeana shouted out in protest âyeah but arenât we like land pirates, thoughâ she said. Jordan interuptrd her little protest with little ticklesâŚ.âah! Daddy that was mean donât do that!â Sel shouted inas Jordan and Harry laughed âNow Sel, thatâs not exactly the caseâ Harry said âpirates are filthy humans who loot and destroy everyone and everything in their path, there is nothing forgivable about the things that they *bonk* ouch what the hell Jordan?!â
Jordan laughed at the countless insults. â Harry thereâs no need to be ignorant, while what you say does have some truth, I do believe their are some pirates still carry a moral compass, I met one once when we camped out at windmill village In the East Blue. I was still fresh out of the gate as a hunter, I came across a Pirate crew, their Captain seemed to have a good head on his shoulders, he was a bit older and I think he was on Rogerâs crew,â he continued, âand I have to admit, when I was younger I did have high respect for Roger and his crew, travelled all over the world, nobody in our tribe has done that since the dark ages, at least until now with our eco system being off balance. Anyways I still admire him for thatâŚhowever a Pirate is a Pirate and while I respect that some have morals I wonât let them lay a finger on our people,â he said as they rode on.
Sel was met with a rib breaking hug and tears filled mother when they arrived at base camp. âSelbeana!!! Oh my goodness you are safeâ the tall woman with dark skin through her arms around the Sel. She barely reacted since this was a common occurrence, it wasnât uncommon that she often ran off to watch her dad hunt, it was a shocker that they didnât put her on a leash. âOh Sel, please stop running away you need to wait until you become older, besides thereâs pirates crawling everywhere and you need to be more careful!â her mother warned. Sel couldnât help but smile at her mother, her parents were never the controlling type but they always knew the right words to say, both of Selâs mother was not born into the tribe, she was rescued by the group after escaping an abusive situation, that was how she fell in love with Jordan, their bond was strong like no other. Noraâs sweet but stern demeanour and Jordanâs ambition, leadership and kindness is what brought them together and therefore gave birth to Sel.
Sel skipped along with her mother as if nothing had happened, not a care in the world that she was nearly kidnapped by pirates. âSomeday, Iâm going to be the best hunter on the grand line, Iâm gonna learn all the skills hunt wild beasts and sea kings too, thatâs why Iâve been following papa, so I can see what itâs likeâ Sel said cheerfully as she skipped alongside her mother. Nora laughed in adoration at her daughterâs ambition âSel sweetie I understand how badly you want to become a hunter but youâre not old enough yet, you still have at least one more year before you can start training, enjoy your time because once you start training you wonât have a lot of time to enjoy your childhood, on top of that since youâve become so well versed in knowing your poisonous plants Grandma Jenny wants to work with you moreâ Nora Explained. Sel let out large sigh that almost the whole tribe could hear âbut I want to be good now, besides papa is going to train me so Iâll have a big advantage,â she said with a large smile on her face. The mother daughter bonding was then politely interrupted by Jordan squeezing in between the two. He lifted Sel up immediately and carried her on His shoulders. âIs that so lovely? just because youâre my daughter doesnât mean Iâll go easy on you, Iâll push you just as hard as the other kids so donât too get cocky on me missyâ he teased. The family laughed and Sel held onto her father even tighter as they made their way back to base.
