The sun hung low in the sky threatening to dip beneath the horizon and shroud the world in darkness. Archery club had let out for the evening and the captain bid her teammates farewell as they left for the day. She remained behind for another half hour to make sure everything was cleaned up and put away before she started for the dormitory.
Yukari Takeba yawned as she crossed the street in front of the school. She was sure that by the time she reached the station, her daylight would be gone, but the walk from the next station to the dorm wasn’t as scary as the walk from the school to the station.
The proximity to the school still gave her chills once the sun went down.
She started around the corner and froze when she heard a strange, deep groaning sound. It almost sounded like someone speaking in a muffled tone. She could tell the sound was saying words, but she couldn’t even begin to decipher exactly what they were. But one thing was for sure.
She shook at the implication as her eyes darted around, looking for the source of the dark groaning. Was it even possible? Or was she just that sleep deprived?
