FLUTTERJAM
Flutterjam is Fantastic! Now THIS is THE single most underrated Bugsnak in the whole game, I think. I don’t see nearly enough love for it, at least where I look. I would love to be wrong, though!
I love Flutterjam so much because even in a game like Bugsnax, it manages to be exceptionally strange! Just from looking at it, this does not look very much like a bug at all. There are plenty of lepidopteran Bugsnax, and until now, all have had a distinct body. Not Flutterjam! This thing is all wings, and its eyes are way out ON its wings! Possible to evoke eyespots, which in this case are actually eyes! It also has a splattering of jam, symmetrical on each wing, and I so love how it’s so far removed from any real butterfly or moth, but there are certain features that nevertheless make it oddly faithful to the source material.
So, we have covered “what the heck kind of bug is this”. Now for “what the heck kind of snack is this”! Bread with some jelly? Is this a food iconic enough to be in this game about food creatures? This, over a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?!
Well... yes, but also no! Flutterjam itself is bread with jelly, but its capture method turns it into something else entirely!
Flutterjam is described as an “elusive flier”, and I love that description. Not an elusive flying Snak, but an elusive flier. It makes it feel so much more alien! It only appears in the day at the very top of Frosted Peak, far out of reach. Far too high to trip out of the sky! But there is something is is looking for. Flutterjam is sort of part of a “recipe”, as it is not yet complete! Some Bugsnax love a certain sauce, but Flutterjam NEEDS one.
If peanut butter is thrown onto Flutterjam, its life has purpose! It is now a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, its true form. It will instantly close up and fall onto the ground, where it can be easily captured. Isn’t that sweet? If you want to capture Flutterjam, you have to do it a little favor, and make it happy!
Flutterjam is SO incredibly unique in every way: design, concept, capture method, everything! I hope you are a Flutterjam Fan, even if you were not convinced before this post!
Day 10 “Least Favorite Snak” of the 30 Day Bugsnax challenge!
I’m not the biggest fan of Flutterjam sorry
Flutterjam hopes to spread some happiness your way :3
